LAST WEEK
Washington earned a marquee series win over No. 11 UCLA last week to boost their foothold in the top of the Pac-12 standings and improve its post-season prospects. After dropping the opening game of the series, 7-3, the Huskies rebounded with a 13-6 win in which they pounded out a season-high 18 hits. Joe Wainhouse and Levi Jordan each had a pair of home runs and Joe DeMers went eight strong innings to earn the win. In the rubber match, the Huskies scored a ninth inning run to force extra innings where Wainhouse went deep for the third time in two days to carry the Huskies to a 6-4 win and their third-straight series victory over UCLA, which is a first in team history ... On Tuesday, the Huskies dropped a 6-4 decision to Portland. They trailed at one point 6-1, thanks to a grand slam home run, and fell short in their rally in which they had the tying run on base in the seventh and eight innings.Β
SERIES HISTORY VS. UTAH
Washington leads Utah in the overall series, 15-8, and holds an 14-4 advantage since the Utes joined the Pac-12 in 2012. The first meeting between the two teams was in 1974 when Utah beat UW 10-2. The teams didn't meet again until 1995. Last year, the Huskies swept Utah in a three-game series (3-1, 4-3, 4-1). The Huskies have in fact won 8-straight over the Utes in Seattle. The last time the Huskies played in Salt Lake City was in 2016 when the series was for the Pac-12 title. The Huskies won the Friday game (5-4), but dropped the next two (8-12, 7-21).UW had won 9-straight against Utah before the Utes won the final two regular season games in 2016, which also earned them the Pac-12 title.
