SEATTLE - Washington volleyball is back home this week and looking to get back in the win column when it hosts Arizona State and Arizona. To boost its postseason hopes, the Huskies will need some November wins, and their first chance comes Friday night against the Sun Devils at 7 p.m. Sunday, 21st-ranked Arizona visits Alaska Airlines Arena for a 12 noon start that will also serve as Youth Volleyball Day.
Friday's match will be streamed live on GoHuskies.com while Sunday's match will air live on Pac-12 Networks Washington.
Despite coming up empty on its trip to Utah and Colorado, the Huskies showed signs of progress. Lauren Sanders hit .389 for the weekend while averaging 2.86 kills per set. Shayne McPherson continues her strong play as she passed 1,000 career digs at Colorado. Freshman Claire Hoffman also had her most kills yet in three matches thus far, with 11 against the Buffs. Washington had five point leads in the first and second sets at Utah but just needs to start slamming the door.
Against the Sun Devils, the Huskies will look to even the season series after suffering an upset loss in Tempe on Oct. 7. Arizona State has struggled since then, losing six in a row to go to 4-8 in conference, but did take No. 15 USC to five sets during that stretch. ASU is hitting .171 in conference play and allowing opponents a .215 percentage. Senior Alyse Ford leads in Pac-12 matches with 3.31 kills per set. Libero Courtney Leffel is fifth in the Pac-12 in digs per set with 4.52, and sophomore middle blocker Megan Beedie is ninth in the Pac-12 with a .327 attack percentage.
Arizona is now 6-6 in Pac-12 play, having won three straight against Colorado, Utah, and Oregon State but then losing to Oregon in four sets. Arizona was missing its top point scorer against the Ducks, as Kendra Dahlke did not play. Dahlke is the No. 2 kills producer in the Pac-12 with 4.64 per set. In league matches, Arizona is fourth with a .229 attack percentage and tenth in opponent percentage at .233. Junior Devyn Cross is second in the Pac-12 with a .367 attack percentage and junior setter Julia Patterson is fourth in assists with 10.84.
