TEMPE, Ariz. – A furious second half wasn't quite enough for Washington Sunday, as the Huskies dropped this one 2-1 to Arizona State. MaKayla Woods scored her first career goal in the game to cut into the 2-0 halftime deficit, with Kennedy Smith assisting on that goal. Washington falls to 7-8-1 on the year after the loss.

Facing a 2-0 deficit after the first 45 minutes, Washington's offense kicked into high gear in the second half, dominating the ball for much of the final period. Just two minutes into the second half, Woods scored her first goal, pushing a centering pass from Smith home.

Summer Yates, one of five Huskies with multiple shots, spun her way into an opening in the box midway through the second half for another strong Husky scoring chance that was blocked away by a defender. Washington would end the game with 13 shots.

"This is a young, inexperienced team that doesn't know how to put it on their back yet," said Lesle Gallimore. "We've got to be tougher in the box… [we need] that commitment to run hard in the box and be someone who wants goal-scoring on their shoulders."

		SCORING
19:09\| Arizona State found a lane in the middle of the field, leaving Ruelas one-on-one in the box. The Sun Devils scored low for the lead. 36:04 \| Arizona State scored off a corner to the far post, finding an empty foot there to make it 2-0. 47:01 \| Smith pulled the ball back across, fooling her defender and giving her a lane toward the near post. With the keeper forced to stay near, Smith centered the ball to a waiting Woods, who knocked it home with her body for the goal.

		NOTES
This was the first time this season Washington has allowed multiple goals in the first half. Washington allowed only three shots in the second half. Woods' goal was the first of her career, coming in her second appearance. Smith's assist was the first of her career as well.

Washington will be home for the last time this regular season next weekend. The two-game week begins on Thursday, October 25 with a 5:00 pm game against Stanford. The final home game of the season, and Senior Day, will be on Sunday, October 28 at 1:00 pm against Cal.
