SEATTLE – Jadyn Holdenried converted a first half penalty kick and the Husky defense did what it does best, suffocating Rutgers in a 1-0 win for the 12^th-ranked Washington women's soccer team Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.

The victory continues UW's perfect start to Big Ten play with six points, improving the Dawgs' overall record to 7-0-1.

Tanner Ijams ended the match with two saves on the stat sheet, but also delivered several crucial bunches around the goal mouth on dangerous services into the six-yard box.

Washington started on the front foot and just under nine minutes in, Holdenried was brought down inside the 18, drawing the whistle for spot kick.

The fourth year midfielder took the ball herself, cool finishing down the middle to put the Huskies ahead, ultimately for good.

UW dominated the pace of play for the rest of the first half, allowing just a single Scarlet Knights shot, but settled for a 1-0 advantage at the break.

With the lead in hand, the Huskies settled into a more defensive posture in the second half, salting away the remaining 45 minutes to move to 2-0-0 early in conference play.

Washington hits the road for the next three matches, beginning with an 11:00 a.m. PT matchup with Nebraska on Sunday, September 20, in Lincoln.
