September 25, 2017 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE - Pac-12 play continues this week for the Washington Huskies, who will take on the Utah Utes and Colorado Buffaloes at home. The week begins with a Thursday, September 28 matchup with Utah at 7:30 pm. The Colorado game will be Sunday, October 1 at 12:00 pm. Tickets for both games are available online.
The Thursday match with Utah will be Sustainability Night for the Huskies. Washington's game against Colorado is the annual Think Pink game.
Last week, the Huskies fell in a close-fought battle with #13 Cal in the Pac-12 opener, falling 1-0 at home to the Golden Bears. Sarah Shimer's shutout streak came to a close in that game after 515:54 minutes, allowing her first goal since August 27. Shimer's shutout streak was the longest since 1991, when the Huskies put together 660 consecutive scoreless minutes.
The loss also ended a five-match winning streak for the Huskies. Washington had outscored opponents 8-0 since their last loss and have a 15-6 goal advantage for the full season. The Huskies have allowed multiple goals in a game just twice this season.
Utah enters Thursday's match with a 5-2-2 record, including a 0-0-1 mark in Pac-12 play. The Utes fought to a 0-0 tie with #10 USC in their pac-12 opener last week. Utah started the year with three straight wins but have gone 2-2-2 since then.
Last year, Utah won the matchup between the Utes and Huskies, winning 1-0 in Seattle. Before that, Washington had won three consecutive matchups and lead the overall series between the two programs 5-3-0.
Colorado will play Washington State Thursday before taking on Washington on Sunday. The Buffs fell 2-0 to #1 UCLA in their conference opener and are 6-2-2 on the season. Colorado is 2-1-1 on the road this year but have won its last two road games, 2-0 over UTSA and 6-1 over Denver.
The all-time series between Washington and Colorado sits at 3-2-2 in Washington's favor. Colorado won 2-1 last year in Boulder. The four games previous to that all went to overtime, with Washington's last win over Colorado coming 2-1 in Boulder in 2012.
