
Washington Announces Three Additions To 2017 Recruiting Class

SEATTLE -- University of Washington women's basketball head coach Jody Wynn announced the signing of three additional student-athletes for the 2017-18 academic year. Alexis Griggsby, Missy Peterson and Fapou Semebene will join Khayla Rooks and Kierra Collier in the incoming freshman class for the Purple and Gold.
"We're excited to welcome this great group of student-athletes to our Husky family," said Wynn. "They're ready to learn and I'm excited for the returners to welcome them in and blend them into the mix. This will be a good blend of some youth and returners."
Alexis Griggsby
5-9 • Guard
Chatsworth, Calif. // Sierra Canyon High School

Griggsby, a 5-9 guard, was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, Calif. As a senior, she averaged 17.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals and was named to the Los Angeles Daily News All-Area Team and Southern Section All-Open Division Team. The two-time All-CIF first team selection earned MVP honors after pouring in 30 points in the Battle of the Valley Senior All-Star game. As a junior, Griggsby averaged 17.4 points and seven rebounds, leading Sierra Canyon to the CIF Southern Section Open Division semifinals. She was named to the Los Angeles Times and Daily News All-Star Team, San Diego All-Tournament Team and Gold Coast League first team. During her sophomore year, Griggsby helped Sierra Canyon capture its third straight state crown, averaging 7.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game. In her rookie year, she averaged 8.3 points she was named the Daily News Rookie of the Year to go along with freshman all-area team accolades.
"I chose the University of Washington because it's a great academic school and I wanted to play at the highest level of basketball," Griggsby said. "Growing up in California, I aspired to play in the Pac-12 Conference and felt like I could one day play at that level. Washington gave me that opportunity to prove that I can."
Missy Peterson
5-11 • Point Guard
Edmonds, Wash. // Edmonds-Woodway High School

Peterson, a 5-11 point guard, was a four-year letterwinner for Edmonds-Woodway High School in Edmonds, Wash. where she was a four-time All-Wesco selection, including being named to the first team as a junior and senior. As a senior, she averaged 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists for E-W before her season was cut short due to injury. During her junior year, Peterson, who averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists, scored 33 points to upset No. 4 Auburn Riverside and send her team to the 2016 Class 3A state quarterfinals. She was named first team all-conference, all-area and all-state.
"I chose the University of Washington for several reasons," said Peterson. "My dad and brother are both UW alums so I grew up rooting for the Dawgs since I was a little girl. I watched almost all Husky sports but especially basketball because it was my favorite. When I started getting older and going through the recruiting process, I kept my options open to see what school was the best for me. The first time I stepped on the UW campus for my visit, I knew it was my home. From academics to athletics to all the amazing people I met, I knew it was the perfect fit and I couldn't be more excited to take the next step of my life as a Dawg!"
Fapou Semebene
6-1 • Forward
Los Angeles, Calif. // Fairfax High School

Semebene, a 6-1 forward from Los Angeles, Calif., earned first team all-city honors all four years of high school. As a senior, she was named first-team all-league after averaging 16 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to help guide Fairfax High School to an open division championship where she finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds. As a junior, she averaged 13 points, nine rebounds and two assists to lead Fairfax to a 24-9 record.
"I chose the University of Washington because it's a great academic school to go along with a great basketball program," said Semebene. "I am confident that I will be provided with a great education and have the tools to be successful in the classroom and on the court. I love the coaching staff and I will be held to a standard of excellence as a student-athlete while receiving a great education and playing basketball."
