May 17, 2017 | Baseball
SEATTLE - Washington (26-22, 12-12 Pac-12) heads to the Bay Area for the second time this year after starting the season with three games at Santa Clara and four games at St. Mary's. The Huskies are trying to fight for a spot in the field of 64, while the Cardinal are trying to play their way into the top-eight seeds for the tourney. The weekend also marks the final regular-season homestand for Stanford coach Mark Marquess, who is retiring after spending 41 years leading the Cardinal.

SERIES HISTORY VS. STANFORD
Stanford holds the all-time series advantage 53-29 over Washington. The Huskies won the series last season, 2-1, and have in fact won 7 of the last 9 games. In 2015, the Huskies recorded their very first series sweep on the road at Stanford. Β Last year, the Huskies won game one 4-3, lost game two 8-7 in 12 innings and won the finale, 4-0. Under the direction of Lindsay Meggs, the Huskies are 12-9 against the Cardinal. The first time these two teams met was in 1912. UW won two of three in that series and were 5-4 overall in that season.Β
TEAM NOTES:Β
β’ Post-Season Watch: The Huskies head to Stanford with a RPI of 66. The Cardinal check in with a RPI of 11, so any wins on the road against the Cardinal will surely boost the Huskies' post-season prospects. USC, UW's final opponent of the regular season, has a RPI of 109, so a lot of what happens on the selection show Monday, May 29 will be determined this weekend.
β’ Close Games: The Huskies are accustomed to playing close games. While 11 of the Huskies' 26 wins have been by four or more runs, only two of their losses have come by that same set of standards. UW has 10 one-run losses, five by two runs and five by three runs. Conversely, the Huskies have seven one-run wins, one by two runs and seven wins by three runs.
β’ Defense: The Huskies enter the weekend tied for the fewest errors in the nation with 31 and are 6th nationally with a .983 fielding percentage. They entered May leading the nation in fielding percentage but have committed 8 in the month, equaling the total they had allowed the entire month of April.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES:Β
β’ Noah Bremer won Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week last week after firing a one-hitter in a 4-0 shutout win over ASU. He allowed just 2 base runners and struck out 10 in pitching his first career shutout. It was the first one-hit, complete game shutout by a Husky since Jeff Peterson did it March 15, 2003 against Cal-State Northridge.
β’ Joey Morgan was named a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award on Wednesday, an honor that goes out to the nation's top catcher. He is batting a team-best .331 with 36 RBIs and is regarded as one of the best defensive catchers in the nation.Β
β’ Jack Meggs is tied for 4th all-time in UW history with 206 career games played. Kyle London has 184, three away from UW's top-10 list. They have combined for the 3rd most games by classmates, trailing Kyle Larsen (225) & Taylor Johnson (187) who played in 412 from 2002-05 and Jeb Best (200) and Tom Riley (200) from 1978-81.
β’Noah Bremer is approaching some of UW's most prestigious pitching records. He has 194 strikeouts and needs six more to become the 6th Husky to reach 200 in their career. He also has 271.1 innings under his belt and needs 12 more to tie Jeff Carlsen for 3rd most in team history. He also is tied for seventh all-time with 39 starts and will move into a tie for 6th with his next start. Complete lists are on page 11.
