SEATTLE --Β The 12th-ranked Husky Baseball team is scheduled to host the Indiana State Sycamores (5-7) in a four-game series Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12 at Husky Ballpark. Friday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT, Saturday's double-header is slated to start at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale is at 1:00 p.m. PT. With inclement weather in the forecast, it is strongly suggested to follow @UW_Baseball Twitter for the most up-to-date game times.
This weekend's series Β is the last tune up for the Huskies (7-4) before they begin Pac-12 play.
UW is ranked in four of five of the major national polls, including a high of 12th in Baseball America's rankings.
Constant game updates will be tweeted out at: @UW_Baseball and fans can follow live stats and watch live online by clicking links available on GoHuskies.com. Steve Sandmeyer will call all the action on line for the Huskies.
SERIES HISTORY VS. INDIANA STATE:
This is the first time the Huskies and Sycamores will play in the schools' histories, but there are some connections to the programs. Lindsay Meggs spent three years as the head coach at Indiana State from 2007-09 and was 77-79 (.494). Meggs did finish .500 or better two out of three years with Indiana State, including a 33-21 record in 2009. Meggs' son, Joe, who is the team's Director of Baseball Ops, played one season at Indiana State as a freshman in 2009.
Indiana State is coming off of a 4-0 loss Wednesday vs. Seattle U and split a four-game series at Utah Valley State. Tony Rosselli was 12-for-18 in the series for ISU.
The Huskies are 10-13 all-time against teams in the Missouri Valley Conference, including: Dallas Baptist (4-2), Evansville (0-1), Missouri State (1-0), Wichita State (5-10). The last MVC opponent they faced was Dallas Baptist in 2011, who won 2 of 3 against the Huskies.
QUICK HITTERS:Β
β’ Base stealers be aware, the Huskies are nearly impossible to steal against. Opponents have recorded just one stolen base in nine attempts. Joey Morgan is a perfect 6-for-6 in gunning at runners trying to swipe bases. He leads the Pac-12 in runners thrown out. He was named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List on March 9. Conversely, the Huskies are 9-for-13 in stolen base attempts. This past weekend against Sacramento State, UW was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts while they threw out all four Hornets runners that tried to steal.
β’ Noah Bremer needs to pitch just one more inning to reach 200 for his career. He has thrown exactly 6 innings in each of his three starts this season. If he maintains that pace and makes 16 starts like last year, Bremer will crack the Huskies top-five all-time innings pitched list. Bremer also needs to make just two more starts to enter the UW's top-10 list. He has madeΒ 34 career starts and will reach the Huskies' top-five if he equals last year mark of 16 starts.
β’ Bremer ranks sixth in the Pac-12 with 20 strikeouts, including 13 by looking -- which ranks 2nd in the Pac-12. His rate of striking out hitters by looking at a 65% rate is by far the best among Pac-12 pitchers. No one among the leaders is over 50%.
β’ Bremer has allowed 2 or fewer runs in 25 of 34 career starts and has a career earned run average of 2.80.
β’ Joe DeMers ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with 19.2 innings pitched.
β’ AJ Graffanino has hits in 9 of 11 games, while Joey Morgan has reached base safely in 10 of 11 games, both team highs.Β
β’ Levi Jordan is one of the best defensive second basemen in the country. He has not made an error in 42 chances this year and has a career fielding percent of .985, making just 8 errors in 522 chances.
β’ Jack Meggs has made 77 consecutive starts. He also passed the 500 career AB mark during the second week of the season, most among current Huskies.
