SEATTLE - The Huskies return home from Spring Break -- which wasn't much of a break as they played eight times over nine days (5-3 record) -- and host nationally ranked Baylor in a three-game series, this Friday through Sunday. Β None of the three games this weekend will be televised, but they will be streamed live on Pac-12.com with Steve Sandmeyer or Gary Hill calling all the action.
After the Huskies host Baylor, they will welcome in Seattle U for a game Tuesday that will be aired by the Pac-12 Network.
For the first time this year, the Huskies (14-9) are unranked by any of the national polls, while Baylor comes to Seattle ranked 21st in both the Coaches and NCBWA polls and 22nd in the Baseball America poll. Constant game updates will be tweeted out at @UW_Baseball and fans can follow live stats and watch live online by clicking links available on GoHuskies.com.Β
HISTORY VS. BAYLOR
The two teams met for the first time last year and UW won the series 2-1. The Huskies opened the 2016 season with a 7-2 win against the Bears in Waco. They dropped the second game of the series but rebounded for a 7-1 win in the deciding game of the series. The offense had 10 hits and the bullpen recorded nine shutout innings in the series finale.
TEAM NOTES:Β
β’ Bullpen Leading The Pac: In six Pac-12 games, the Huskies' bullpen has yet to allow a run. Five pitchers have combined to throw 28.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing 13 hits, 8 walks, striking out 31 batters and holding opponents to a .138 average. Noah Bremer, normally a starter, has paced the bullpen during conference action throwing 13 scoreless innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 walks and striking out 15 batters.
β’ Tough Stretch: The Huskies just completed playing 8 games over 9 days and recorded a 5-4 record in that span.
β’ Sweep Start: The Huskies swept Utah to start Pac-12 play 3-0. It was the first time UW started Pac-12 play with a sweep since 2007 when they won all three games at Washington State to begin conference action.
β’ Close Calls: Of the Huskies' nine losses, six are by one run and two are by two runs.
β’ Dawgs Days: The Huskies are 12-2 during day games and 2-7 in night games.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES:Β
β’ Noah Bremer has thrown 219 career innings and is on pace to crack the Huskies top-five all-time innings pitched list. He needs to reach 241 IP to tie Pete Tjaarda (1985-88) in the top-10 list. He has also made 35 career starts and will tie Aaron West and Tim Campbell for 10th all-time in UW history with his next start. Bremer has recorded 17 strikeouts looking this season, second-most among Pac-12 leaders. He is tied for 5th with 42 K's on the season. Bremer has allowed 2 or fewer runs in 26 of 35 career starts and has a career earned run average of 2.59.
β’ Joe DeMers threw the first complete game shutout, 8-0, over Indiana State, March 11. It was the first by a Husky pitcher since Tyler Davis blanked Georgia Tech, 8-0, on May 31, 2014 during the NCAA Oxford Regional. DeMers is second in the Pac-12 with 41 innings pitched this season.Β
β’ Husky catchers have been phenomenal this season defensively. Opponents are 2-for-16 in stolen base attempts, while UW catchers have allowed a league low one passed ball and the second-lowest total of eight wild pitches. Joey Morgan leads the Pac-12 and has thrown out 9 runners in 10 SB attempts.
β’ Senior MJ Hubbs has reached base safely in all 19 of his starts and has a current streak of reaching safely in 16 straight games.Β
β’ Junior righty Alex Hardy is taking full advantage of opportunities to win games. In seven relief appearances he has picked up a team-high and is tied for second in the NCAA with five wins.
Β β’ Sophomore third baseman Willie MacIver is on a run-producing tear at the plate. Over the last six games, he is 9-for-23 (.391) with 2 HR, a triple, 3 doubles and 11 RBI. Last Sunday at Oregon, he was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs, including a grand slam home run.
