March 16, 2017 | Track & Field
SEATTLE โ Washington's tracksters roll right into the outdoor season this weekend, heading for Los Angeles and some seventy degree temperatures. USC plays host to the Trojan Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Loker Stadium, with the Huskies bringing over fifty athletes, several of who will be making their 2017 debuts.
ย
Friday will see a few Husky throwers open up in the hammer and discus throws. Onyie Chibuogwu, Carey Campbell, and Kyle White are slated to throw the hammer, while Chibuogwu, Dan Boyden, and Jose Padilla will toss the discus.
ย
Saturday the field events resume at 10 a.m. and the first track events will start at 11 a.m. The Huskies will be focusing mostly on sprints and relays this weekend, up to 800-meters at the long end.
ย
Andrew Brown, Ryan Croson, Oscar Herrera, Jordan Lucas, Jason Palmer, Eric Simpson, Jacopo Spanò, Lucas Strong, Michael Thomas, and Khalil Winfrey are all set to sprint or hurdle for the men. Women's sprinters lining up on Saturday include Laura Anuakpado, Imani Apostol, Carolyn Birkenfeld, Kennadi Bouyer, Whitney Diggs, Morganne Hill, Darhian Mills, Sarah Stavig, and Cydnicia Wade. At 800-meters, Mikelle Ackerley, Hannah Derby, Mason Fletcher, and Connor Morello are all entered.
ย
Coming off their NCAA Indoor Championship appearances, Chase Smith and Elizabeth Quick will get right back on the runway in the pole vault on Saturday. Joining will be All-American Kristina Owsinski, who competed unattached during the indoor season but will be putting on a Husky singlet for the first time since her 2016 injury. Blaise Black, Jacob Bowler, Lev Marcus, Zach Shugart, Joey Weiler, Annika Dayton, Aleksei Dingel, Tori Franzen, and Kaitlin Zinsli will all also make the trip south to vault.
ย
In the jumps, Kate Adler, Alanna Coker, Carly Lester, Casey Burns, Josh Gordon, and Cole Jensen will all compete in the long or triple jumps, while Mayson Douglass competes in the high jump. Washington also is expected to get a new addition this weekend from the gridiron, as All-Pac-12 performer Dante Pettis is entered in the long jump.
ย
Saturday brings the first chance for UW's javelin crew to let loose this year, with Denham Patricelli coming back from a redshirt year, and joined by sophomore Katherine Taylor and freshman Emmy Engle.
