March 17, 2017 | Track & Field
LOS ANGELES - Five members of Washington's throws crew kicked off the outdoor season on day one of the Trojan Invitational today at USC, with Dan Boyden starting off his senior season with a solid PR in the discus. The hammer and discus were the only two events the Huskies were competing in this afternoon, but Saturday will feature a full slate of events starting at 10 a.m. at Loker Stadium.
Boyden took fourth overall in the discus and his first attempt of the season was his best of the day, as he threw 169-feet, 8-inches. His third attempt went 166-11, also further than his old PR of 166-8 which was set back in 2015.
Juniors Onyie Chibuogwu and Carey Campbell, and senior Kyle White all opened up in the hammer today. Chibuogwu was third on the women's side with a best of 187-6, just two feet off her career-best. Campbell went 181-3 in his outdoor opener, and White had a best of 171-0.
Freshman Jose Padilla threw discus for the first time, going 133-7 but fouling twice.
