Huskies Blank Oregon State In 0-0 Tie
October 05, 2017 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Washington Huskies dominated offensively but settled for a 0-0 tie with the Oregon State Beavers Thursday night. Washington has now picked up points in three of four Pac-12 games thus far and sit at 8-3-2 on the season, 1-1-2 in Pac-12 play. The Huskies are 1-1-2 in overtime games this year.
Sarah Shimer did not face a single shot on goal in the game as the Huskies shutout the opposition for the eighth time in nine games. Washington has allowed just one goal since the end of August.
The Huskies outshot Oregon State 19-6 in the game, with shots on goal favoring UW 9-0. The zero shots on goal allowed by UW were a new season-best: the Huskies had allowed just one shot on goal against Michigan State. The zero shots on goal allowed were, obviously, a program record.
"It was just one of those games where we couldn't find the winner," said Head Coach Lesle Gallimore. "We had enough of the ball, we had quality chances, but we just didn't bury them. [Beaver goalie] Bella Geist is a good goalkeeper but we played to her strengths too often."
The Beavers had the first shot of the game at 4', sending it wide of goal. Washington would allow just one more shot in the first half, which was blocked before reaching the net.
Dominique Bond-Flasza put two shots on goal as Washington found plenty of room for shots throughout the game. The senior had both of her shots, coming at 16' and 38', save away.
That second Bond-Flasza shot was part of a sequence that saw the Huskies put three shots on net in ten minutes. Kimberly Keever followed Bond-Flasza's shot, putting another on net just under a minute later that was also stopped.
Keever put an end to the half with her third shot, sending this one high over the net as the buzzer sounded.
Shots were 6-2 in Washington's favor after 45 minutes, with four shots on goal for the Huskies. Washington also had three corner kicks in the first half.
Ameera Hussen came on as a substitute for the Huskies and immediately jumped in on the action offensively. Hussen had three shots in the first 20 minutes, starting with a shot wide at 51' and followed by a shot high shortly thereafter. Hussen would send another shot high in the 65th minute.
A corner kick by Anissa Dadkhah sandwiched between Hussen's first two shots created a dangerous shot for Lisa Jensen. Dadkhah found Jensen alone in the box, with the defender able to let loose with a shot that was saved away.
Bond-Flasza had her third shot on goal in the 80th minute, only to have this saved as well. Bond-Flasza has twice recorded three shots on goal in a game this year, matching a career-high set against Seattle on August 28, 2015.
The last shot of regulation came from Amanda Perez, who sent a shot at 88' wide of goal.
The Huskies had nine shots in the second half of play while allowing just two, neither of which went on goal. Even so, the game headed to overtime tied 0-0.
Washington continued to dominate the ball in overtime, with four more shots in the first OT. Keever had an excellent scoring chance in the 99th minute saved. Shannon Simon jumped on the rebound as the clock ran down but sent her shot over the crossbar.
The only scoring chance of the second overtime period came at 105'. The Huskies had two corner kicks in quick succession but were unable to get a shot on goal, with the game ending scoreless.
"The defensive effort and ball movement were good, we just need to continue to work and the goals will come," said Gallimore.
The Huskies have on more game on the road this week as they take on the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 pm.
