SEATTLE – Returning home to continue their conference schedule, the Washington women's soccer team will face Arizona State on Thursday October 6th at 4 p.m., and Arizona Sunday October 9th at 1 p.m. Both matches will be televised on Pac-12 Network Washington and feature a doubleheader with the men's soccer team.
The Huskies (5-6-1, 0-3-0) have dropped their first three Pac-12 matches this season, after facing two difficult opponents this past weekend on the road in No. 17 California and No. 1 Stanford. Junior captain Shannon Simon continues to lead the charge for Washington, scoring her team-best fifth goal on the year against Cal last weekend.
Arizona State (5-4-2, 0-2-1) will enter Thursday's match searching for their first conference win as well, having lost to No. 11 UCLA and Colorado and drawn with Utah thus far. The Sun Devils have scored 18 goals this season, seven of which belong to junior forward Jazmarie Mader, who last scored in their 1-1 match with Utah. In goal, freshman Emma Malsy has gotten the start for the last six matches, owning a 1.01 goals against average and grabbing 25 saves while recording two shutouts. The Huskies are 9-6-4 all-time against ASU, and hold a 7-3-1 record when playing at Husky Soccer Stadium.
After they face Washington State on Thursday, the Arizona Wildcats (5-5-1, 0-3-0) will travel to Seattle to face the Huskies on Sunday. Arizona's three Pac-12 losses have come to No. 10 USC on the road, and Colorado and Utah at home last weekend. Forward Paige Crouch leads the team in points with four goals and one assist, recently scoring the team's lone goal in their loss to Utah. Sophomore Lainey Burdett has started the last eight matches in goal for the Wildcats, grabbing four straight shutouts in her first four matches before allowing nine goals in her latest four. Washington leads the all-time series 15-4-2 against Arizona, and holds a 9-1-1 record when playing at home in Seattle.
