December 11, 2014 | Volleyball
AUSTIN, Texas – Another historic honor, this one combining both academics and athletics, went the way of Husky senior Krista Vansant today. For the first time, Vansant was named an Academic All-American, and not only that, she becomes the first ever Husky to win Capital One Academic All-American of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Vansant, who majors in sociology with a 3.30 G.P.A., was also named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year this season, along with the Pac-12 Player of the Year for the second year in a row. She is the fifth Husky to be named an Academic All-American, and the first since Jill Collymore in 2009. She is also the first Husky ever named to the First Team.
A 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Redlands, Calif., Vansant was also just named the ESPNW National Player of the Year, and she was voted to her third straight AVCA All-Pacific North Region team. The third-seeded Huskies (31-2) host Nebraska in the NCAA round of 16 this Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Vansant recently became the Washington career kills leader, now owning 1,878 career kills, and 1,115 digs, while hitting .291 over her career, including a career best .321 this season.
