SEATTLE – The Dawgs finished up their November home slate with a convincing 81-51 win against Yale on Sunday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. Washington improved to 2-1 on the season as Kelsey Plum had another big scoring performance, netting 28 points to lead all scorers, while Aminah Williams finished with a double-double.
Plum went 7-14 from the floor, including 13-14 from the charity stripe as the Huskies spoiled Chris Gobrecht's return to Seattle as the head coach of Yale.
Williams, Katie Collier and Talia Walton also finished in double figures with 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Washington won the battle on the boards 50-46 with Williams and Chantel Oshahor pulling down 11 and 10 rebounds apiece.
The Huskies came out of the gate hot with Walton scoring with less than a minute into the game, knocking down a mid-range jumper at the 19:35 mark before Plum hit a trey to propel the Huskies to a 5-0 advantage.
Yale took their first lead of the game at 10:06 after a jumper by Jen Berkowitz gave the Bulldogs a 13-12 lead. Kelli Kingma's three pointer at the 10:06 mark jumpstarted the Husky offense as the Dawgs went on a 19-11 run and headed into the locker room leading 38-29. Plum finished with 14 points at the half.
The Dawgs pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 43-22. UW led by 23 after a jumper by Collier at the 7:36 mark gave the Dawgs a 64-41 lead.
The Huskies were 5-16 from behind the arc with four different players knocking down a 3-point shot. Talia Walton continued her hot shooting from 3-point range, hitting a pair of triples to lead the Huskies from long distance
Williams finished the night with 13 points and 11 rebounds as she earned her second double-double of the season. Collier chipped 11 points and seven rebounds while Walton contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
Washington finished 25-58 (43.1 percent), while holding Yale to 21-75 (28.0 percent). The Dawgs were also 26-36 from the foul line as Plum finished 13-14, making 12 or more free throws for the third-straight game.
Next up, Washington will travel south of the border to participate in the Cancun Challenge. The Thanksgiving tournament will feature three games in three days, beginning with Florida State on Thursday, Nov. 27. Washington will also face Hartford and Furman as the Dawgs begin a stretch of five-straight away from home.
