Opening statement
I think, more than anything, I think this team believes. For those of you who caught the whole game, the whole 40 minutes of the game, you see we're not 29 points worse than this team. It's unfortunate that we didn't get to showcase that in all of its splendor, so to speak. What we told the team after the game is that we need to do a better job of being in attack mode, getting to the free throw line a little more. We can't be out-rebounded by pretty close to 20. That can't happen. At the same time, we've got to keep our bigs in the game. We've got to keep our post in there and make sure we're establishing the balanced scoring and the balanced game that we want. Those are things we're going to look to improve going forward, but, for the most part, I thought our team battled tremendously and, if anyone questions that, I don't know if they really appreciate the game and all that we had to share today.
On how foul trouble adjusted the rotation
Yeah, it was tough. You look at it and, I think in the first half, I think we had three post players with three fouls and in the second half, Stanford's in the bonus at just before the 12-minute media timeout. We couldn't find our rhythm. It was very hard to do that with the whistles blowing and it was just tough. It's what we told the post - `we've got to keep you guys in the game'.
On them holding Stanford scoreless for awhile after Regina Rogers came in
We wanted to get the ball inside right away and we were running a play where we were able to get a look for our guards and a look for our post if we could. They were packing it in so hard that we couldn't find that right away. We ended up doing that in the second half, just tweaking some things after halftime. When Regina [Rogers] came in, she demands a lot of attention so, when that happens, it allows people to get hot, it allows Charmaine [Barlow] to get those open looks, it allows Sarah Morton to hit a few threes. And that's what happened.
Junior G Charmaine Barlow
On what they can take away from this game
Our team knows that Stanford provides a challenge. I think that our team, we're not 29 points different than Stanford. We hung around a lot and really stuck with it and that's what we take away. Our defense was what kept them scoreless. So, I feel like any time we play teams like that, it's a challenge for us, whether it's Stanford or whoever else.
Senior G Sarah Morton
On how this time playing Stanford was different than other times
Obviously, we're a little upset that we ended up losing by 29 but, when we look back at the game, we realize a lot of the things that we did wrong were in our control. The next time, we've got to be able to get to the free throw line, be more aggressive, find our post inside a little earlier and not wait and go scoreless for the first couple minutes. So, I think it's just more understanding that anything we do is in our control and we can hang with any team. We bring it.
