With Saturday's win, Washington improves to 57-10 all-time against the Cougars (29-7 at home). The Huskies have won the last 27 straight games in the series, including 16 straight at home. The last Cougar win in the series came on Feb. 25, 1995 in Pullman (67-72).
WSU opened game with an 11-3 run, but Washington tied the game at 24 at the 4:28 mark on a pair of free-throws from sophomore guard Sarah Morton, sparking a 15-4 run by the Huskies to end the half up 37-28.
Washington opened the second half with 12-0 run, holding the Cougars without a field goal for the first three and a half minutes of the period.
The Huskies shot a season high 52% (26-50) from the floor, going 5-11 from beyond the arc and hitting 15 of their 25 attempts in the second half. In turn, UW held WSU to a 30.2 percent clip from the field (19-63), the lowest mark by a Husky opponent this season.
Junior guard Sami Whitcomb scored 13 of her 17 points in the second-half, finishing just one point shy of her season-high 18 points last set against Pepperdine on Dec. 3. Whitcomb has scored in double-figures in seven games this season. She also grabbed a team-high 4 steals, a category in which she is ranked third in the Pac-10 with 2.3 takeaways per game.
10 of the 12 Huskies seeing game-time action contributed at least three points to the effort.
Sophomore guard Sarah Morton tied her career-high in assists with 7, a mark she first set against Seattle U on Nov. 28.
In her second game of the season, Liz Lay came off the bench and scored 4 points on 2-3 shooting and also added one assist and one rebound in seven minutes of play.
Junior forward/center Laura McLellan tallied her eighth double-figure scoring game with 10 points versus WSU. Her six rebounds were two shy of a season-high.
With 10 points, senior guard/forward Michelle Augustavo tallied her fifth double-figure scoring game of the season.
