The Husky Classic All-Tournament Team:
Breanna Salley (Seattle U)
Anna Kowalska (Kent State)
Whitney Hood (Clemson)
Michelle Augustavo (Washington)
MVP - Lele Hardy (Clemson)
Sunday's game marked the first time Washington and Clemson had ever met. The Huskies now hold a 10-3 all-time record against ACC squads.
With Sunday's loss, Washington's record falls to 36-8 all-time in the Husky Classic, and this marks the first time in four years that the Huskies have not won the championship game.
After scoring the first four points of the game, the Huskies fell victim to a 16-2 Clemson run led by 8 points from Lele Hardy. Washington would counter a little over two minutes later with a 10-0 run of their own - including two three-pointer's from Michelle Augustavo - to go up 22-20 with 9:39 left to play in the first half. UW held the Tigers without a field goal for the final 4:35 of the period.
The Huskies led 50-48 as late as the 11:07 mark in the second half, but the Tigers mounted a 19-4 run over the next 4:55 that included six points from Lele Hardy and seven points from Kirstyn Wright to lead 67-54 with 6:12 remaining. The Huskies also committed their only two turnovers of the half during that stretch.
In her first career start as a Husky, freshman forward Molly Williams contributed a career-high 12 points to go along with a team and career-high 8 rebounds. Williams also tallied 3 blocks and 2 steals.
Senior guard Michelle Augustavo's 15 points matched a season-high, with 13 of those points coming in the first half. Augustavo's career-best 42-point scoring performance also came against Clemson (Dec. 11, 2005) when she played at the University of San Diego.
Junior guard Sami Whitcomb scored a team-high 18 points, the most scored by any Husky in a single game this season.
Junior forward Lydia Young scored a career-high 6 points and also grabbed 6 rebounds.
Four of the ten Huskies that stepped on the floor scored in double-figures.
In the consolation game of the Husky Classic, Kent State defeated Seattle 89-77 in overtime. After a hectic first couple of minutes that saw seven lead changes, Seattle U jumped out to a 42-29 halftime lead, but Kent State battled back in the second period to send the game into overtime tied at 76. Kent State outscored Seattle U 13-1 in extra time to come out with the victory. The Golden Flashes' Anna Kowalska led all scorers with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Seattle University's Breanna Salley contributed 17 points for the Redhawks.
