Friday's action marked the first round of Washington's 22nd annual Husky Classic.
Washington's win over Seattle U improved its record in Husky Classic first round games to 22-0. UW advances to face Clemson in the championship game to be held Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. Clemson defeated Kent State (68-53) in the tournament's first game. Seattle U and Kent State will play in the consolation game at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
With 10 points, junior forward/center Laura McLellan tallied her fourth-straight double-figure scoring game of the year and sixth-straight dating back to last season.
Senior guard Michelle Augustavo's 15 points were a season-high, also sinking a season-high five three-pointers. Augustavo's career-best 42-point scoring performance came against Clemson (Dec. 11, 2005) when she played at the University of San Diego. UW will of course face Clemson on Sunday.
Seven assists for sophomore Sarah Morton were a career-high and the most by a Husky this season. All seven assists were dished in the first-half.
Junior Lydia Young grabbed a team and career-high seven rebounds for the Huskies.
Freshman Mollie Williams tallied her first-career double-figure scoring game before fouling out. Williams tallied 10 points on a 5-of-6 clip from the field. She also had two assists, one block and three steals.
UW opened game with 10-0 run on 5 points from Sami Whitcomb, three from Kristi Kingma and two from Laura McLellan. UW's largest lead of the first-half was a 14-point spread (22-8) at 9:40.
After Seattle U scored the first bucket of the second-half, UW rattled off a 15-0 to take a 19-point lead (49-30), just five minutes after the intermission. Freshman Mollie Williams had six straight points in the run to spark the Huskies. UW's largest lead of the game was a 31-point spread with 1:28 remaining (81-50).
Seattle U's Breanna Salley led all scorers with 23 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Salley was responsible for 16 of Seattle U's 28 first-half points.
UW improved its record to 11-3 versus Seattle U in the all-time series. Today was both teams' first meeting since 1984. UW has a six-game winning streak in the series and is 7-1 when playing Seattle U at Bank of America Arena.
In the first game of the Husky Classic, Clemson defeated Kent State 68-53. The Tigers trailed by three (30-33) at halftime but came back to outscore the Golden Flashes, 38-20, after the intermission. Forward Lele Hardy led Clemson with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Center Anna Kowalska led Kent State with 18 points and nine rebounds.
