Washington Head Coach Tia Jackson
General Statement:
"Six point game. That's been indicative of our last few games, actually. I know down the road, these are the games we win. A disappointing loss, but I think any time you give a team 17 offensive rebounds - a good team 17 rebounds - they're going to score on every other one. That's just the way it is. They're a solid team that has balance going all the way around. I would say if anything hurt us, that's probably the biggest thing right there."On what needs to be done to win the close games: "Just win the first one. We don't know what it's like yet. Once we figure that out - and we're talking about a young team - it's nightmare for the rest of the world."
On the physical nature of the game: "[Emily getting] banged up is an understatement. I think she was doing a bit of banging herself. This is not your first ASU/Washington game, this is not my first time witnessing one. They're always physical. I know she was expecting it, she's been going against them now for four years. And [Sarah Morton] is getting used to it. You don't say that's what is controlling the game, you expect the game to be physical."
On the tough night for Redmon and Whitcomb: "Those are the only people it was tough for? I think it was tough for everybody. With our two leading scorers not having the nights they've been having and we still shoot 47 percent for the game, that's not a complaint. It wasn't the fact that they weren't scoring, they were getting the ball to the right people when it needed to be gotten to them, it was the 17 offensive boards. They're going to put their best defender, January, on Sami when we have Katelan on the floor and then when we make a sub and put Katelan on the wing, they're going to put January on her when Sami's out of the game. They're trying to take them away. We're trying to limit them as much as they're trying to limit us."
On the difference in the shooting percentage in the halves: "We shot lay-ups. We were attacking more. We want those and we started to get a lot more. We started pushing in transition a lot more too, getting more wide-open looks. That helped us."
On the threes by January and Pariseau: "It always crushes you when you work that hard. But those threes came off of second opportunities. Off of a free throw, they get set back into their offense, move the ball around while we're scrambling trying to get people off of the free throw, they find January on the right side of the floor. She's their best three point shooter. She's one of the league's best and she's going to knock that down. Those second opportunities kill us."
On the mass subbing: "I got pissed. Nobody was boxing out, so I said `Anybody want to box out?' They raised their hand, I said `you five go in.' I don't care if it was five guards. It was never `you need to go in and score'- it was never about that - it was about boxing out."
Freshman Sarah Morton
On returning from injury:
"I'm slowly getting back. My knees are staying healthy and strong. I just have to keep rehabbing them and they are improving."On not playing recently: "I think it was mostly coach's decision. My knee hurts off and on, but like she said I needed to get my mind right and be doing the things that she wanted me to do. Until I was producing and helping the team I shouldn't be out there."
Senior Emily Florence
On losing close games:
"They always hurt, especially when they are by two or four. We're so close, but we're young. Like coach said though, we're 20 games in now so we should be gaining more experience every game. We just need one I think and then we'll start rolling. But it's definitely tough when you're so close and if you would've done one thing different you think you could've had them. I think we're getting better and we're definitely going to take it out against Arizona."
