Washington's 66-65 win was its first against Purdue in the team's series history. The Boilermakers had won all three of the teams' previous matchups.
After Purdue took a 52-40 lead with 10:33 remaining (its largest lead of the game), Washington launched an 18-8 run over the next seven minutes to close to 60-58 with 3:34 to play. Sophomore Sami Whitcomb scored 14 of Washington's 18 points during the run.
Whitcomb finished with 18 points (one shy of her career-high), six assists (career-high) and six steals (one shy of her career-high).
Senior guard Emily Florence finished with five steals and five assists to crack Washington's all-time top-10 in both categories. Florence passed Karen Deden (316) for 10th on the assists list with 319, and tied Jamie Redd for 10th on the steals list at 183.
Freshman Katelan Redmon's game-winning basket with three seconds left brought her scoring total to 13 for the game, extending her streak of games scoring in double figures to nine.
Washington forced Purdue into 30 total turnovers (a UW opponent season-high), including 18 in the second half alone. By comparison, the Huskies turned the ball over just six times after the break.
UW held Purdue without a field goal for the first 4:03, and did so again for the final 3:08 of the contest. In fact, the Huskies denied the Boilermakers even a single shot after Kalika France made Purdue's final basket with 3:08 to play.
Friday's contest with Purdue wrapped the non-conference schedule for the Huskies. Washington will open Pac-10 play with three-straight road games at No. 12/12 California (Dec. 28), No. 5/4 Stanford (Dec. 30) and at Washington State (Jan. 4).
