Head Coach Tia Jackson:
On if outcome was result of adjusting to freshmen and staff: "No. We were outworked."
On difference in the game: "They dribble-penetrated all night long, and dished the ball, and we didn't stop that. What it looked like was that we couldn't stop them from dribble penetrating."
On impact for upcoming KSU game: "Actually, SPU plays a similar style. They like to push the tempo. They like to dribble-penetrate and dish. They like to crash the boards very hard. They play hard. So it is great preparation for what we are going to see on Saturday."
On shot selection: "I thought we were looking to attack. Unfortunately, we were turning it over a little more than I would have hoped for. We were looking to attack them though. They were looking to attack us and we knew it. So, when you are pressuring, that opens up a driving lane for us. We just needed to see our other options while we were out there. They were packing it in. They weren't letting us go inside, so those options penetrating and looking to go weak-side was a better option."
On lessons taken from game: "It is a lesson learned. It is a wake-up call for us. It is definitely a lesson learned. We got knocked upside our head with a big brick, and it is time to open up our eyes and see what is in front of us."
On substitutions: "I substituted either based on quick fouls - typically if we pick up a quick foul right away I need to sit them down and tell them what is going on and be able to put them back in. When I would make that substitution, that player would actually go in there and do some good things. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel; if it looks good out there I am going to try and keep it going.
On three-point shooting: "I wanted us to shoot from the arc. I wanted to really penetrate and look to go weak-side, and for some reason those options just didn't get exploited tonight. Just understanding what type of defense they play. We are going to go up against different defenses - a team that likes to play a little bit more zone, a team that is a little more passive on defense - the way we attack those different looks might bring forth a few more threes. We definitely had those players on the weak side, we just couldn't get the ball to them."
On Kali Bennett and Jess McCormack: "I thought Kali (Bennett) looked good today. I thought she tried to exploit, they were overplaying, and she was looking to go backdoor. I thought Jess (McCormack) was really trying to own the inside. Unfortunately we couldn't really go in there as much because they had four or five players in there. That is why I wanted to fake it in and look to skip it."
Player Quotes
On why this game was frustrating: "We worked really hard to get ready for this game. We didn't execute the way we should have."
On how tonight's loss affects the team: "Like coach said, it's definitely a big wake up call. We're all mad at ourselves. As a senior, it's my job to pull people together. As point guard, a leader, it's my job to make sure everybody's going to be prepared for practice tomorrow and the next day. We definitely need to make a turnaround."
"We need to play at a whole different level than we did tonight. We saw what happened tonight when we let up. We're against Kansas State this weekend and they're really really good. If we want to compete, we need to step up. We have the athletes and we have the talent. We just need to work hard in practice every day and bring the energy."
