Washington's win over USC tonight extends its current winning streak to seven games. Since starting the season 0-2, Washington has won 10 of its last 12 games, including its last seven-straight. The equals UW's longest winning streak since the 2002-03 season, when the Huskies won eight straight from Nov. 29-Dec. 28.
With the win, Washington improved to 3-0 in Pac-10 play for the first time since the 2000-01 season, when the Huskies shared the Pac-10 title. Washington has opened 3-0 on five other occasions since joining the Pac-10 in 1987, including an 8-0 start to Pac-10 play in 1987-88. With a win against UCLA on Sunday, Washington would be 4-0 in Pac-10 play for the first time since the 1991-92 season.
The win improved Washington's home record to 7-0 this season, and was their 10th-straight home victory, dating back to last season. UW's last loss at home was to then 19th-ranked ASU, 67-62, on Jan. 28.
Washington broke open a close game midway through the first half, holding the Women of Troy scoreless for more than 10 minutes to turn a 13-11 lead at the 12:08 mark into a 31-11 lead at the 2:29 mark. The 18-0 run included eight points from senior Erica Schelly.
Senior guard Erica Schelly set a career-high with 11 points vs. USC. Schelly sparked the Huskies' huge first-half, getting eight points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist in a three-minute span.
Washington, which entered the game leading the Pac-10 in offensive rebounds at 17.92/game, finished with a season-high 26 tonight, opposite just 24 defensive rebounds for USC. The Huskies 50 total rebounds, including a similar 24 defensive boards, were its second-best total of the year, trailing only the 60 rebounds amassed at Eastern Washington.
Junior guard Emily Florence finished with a career-high 11 rebounds, best her previous of nine set vs. UCLA, Jan. 12, 2006. Florence also had eight points.
Hicks - nine straight double-figure scoring games and 13 overall. Hicks has scored at least 17 points in the last six-straight games.
Washington's win was its 27th in 45 tries all-time vs. USC, but just its second in the last six meetings between the two teams, and its first over the Women of Troy in Seattle since 2003-04.
UW freshman guard Sara Mosiman did not suit up for tonight's game. She suffered a concussion in practice on Wednesday and is listed as day-to-day.
