The win for Stanford was its fourth-straight in the UW-Stanford series, and its seventh in the last nine games between the teams.
Tonight's game was Washington's fourth this season against an opponent ranked in the top-10 of the Associated Press poll, and its seventh against a top-25 opponent. The Huskies are 2-5 in those seven games, with wins over then-No. 14 Minnesota and then-No. 21 Arizona State.
Washington tied Stanford for the second time with 18:10 remaining, at 39-39, and trailed just 42-41 with 17:23 to play. The Cardinal, however, mounted an 11-0 run over the next 3:36, with Candice Wiggins scoring five points and Brooke Smith adding four.
Washington was held without a field goal for 5:33 of the last 5:58 of the game, finally breaking the drought with an Andrea Plouffe layin in the final minute.
Sophomore Jill Bell scored 14 points Thursday, marking her second-straight game in double digits. Bell has scored in double-digits on nine occasions this season, second-most on the team only to Kristen O'Neill's 10 such outings.
Tonight's attendance of 3,774 was a UW season-high.
Six players scored at least five points for the Huskies, who boast six players averaging between seven and 10 points per game.
Washington trailed by just five at halftime, at 36-31, but was outscored 46-29 by the Cardinal in the second half, continuing a season-long trend of second-half struggles. For the season, the Huskies boast a -28 scoring margin in the first half, but are -87 after the break.
Freshman guard Dominique Banks' led all Huskies with a career-high seven rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
