Saturday's attendance of 6,339 was a Bank of America Arena season-high. It was the 19th-highest home attendance in UW history, and the fifth-highest crowd total since the re-opening of the arena at the start of the 2000-01 season.
USC held its largest lead of the game with 4:13 remaining, at 66-59, before Washington mounted a 13-2 run to take control of the contest, with 10 of the 13 points coming from senior guard Giuliana Mendiola. USC was held without a basket for the final 4:13 of the game.
Giuliana Mendiola tallied 29 points in today's contest, moving the senior into fourth place on Washington's all-time career scoring list. Mendiola'29-point effort brings her career total to 1,713, surpassing the 1,704 career points of Leteia Hughley. With five games remaining before the Pac-10 Tournament, Mendiola now trails Karen Murray by 32 points for third all-time, and is 71 points behind Rhonda Smith for second.
The 29 points scored by Giuliana Mendiola marked her third-consecutive game with at least 27 points, and her 12th 20-point outing of the season.
Including the 43 points she scored against UCLA on last year's National Girls and Women in Sports Day, Giuliana Mendiola has now scored 72 points in the last two games held in conjunction with the women's sports celebration.
With one block today, senior Andrea Lalum climbed into a tie for second on Washington's career blocks list, with 94. Lalum matched the career total of Karen Deden (1988-91), and remains behind only Liz Chicane (144 blocks) in UW history.
Husky freshman Breanne Watson was taken to the training room with 10:19 remaining in the second half, and the two teams tied at 52-52. The Trojans promptly mounted a 10-1 run over the ensuing 4:18 holding the Huskies without a basket for a span of 6:22, from just before the injury to the 4:28 mark of the second half.
After trailing 30-27 with 4:40 to play in the first half, Washington closed the period on a 12-5 run, holding USC to just two field goals in that span.
Cameo Hicks' 16 points were a Pac-10 season high, and the most for Hicks this season since scoring a career-high 24 points in Washington's win over Notre Dame on Dec. 7.
