Seattle Times Husky Classic Championship Game
Washington upped its home-winning streak tonight to 16 games. The streak dates back to March 20, 2002. Washington improved the all-time series record between Oklahoma State to 2-1.
Tonight's Seattle Times Husky Classic championship game was a rematch of the 1999 championship. That year, Oklahoma State defeated Washington 87-76 to claim the title. With tonight's 89-65 win over Oklahoma State, Washington is now 11-6 in Seattle Times Husky Classic championship games.
Washington improved its tournament record to 30-6 overall.
Senior Giuliana Mendiola is the only Husky to win the Seattle Times Husky Classic tournament MVP three times.
Giuliana Mendiola moved to 10th place on the all-time scoring list at Washington with her team and season-high 30 points tonight. She now has a total of 1,346 points at Washington. Carlin McClary (1979-82) is 9th on the all-time scoring list with 1,508 points.
Senior Gioconda Mendiola had a career high 10 assists tonight, the most assists in a Seattle Times Husky Classic game.
Oklahoma State senior Trisha Skibbe scored 57 points in both Seattle Times Husky Classic games, just one point shy of the most amount of points scored in the tournament. Cindy Blodgett of Maine scored 58 points in both Seattle Times Husky Classic games in 1995.
Washington head coach June Daugherty is one win shy of 250 career victories. She has an overall record of 126-86 in eight seasons as the Husky head coach. Daugherty also posted a 123-74 record as the head coach at Boise State from 1990-1996.
