Old Dominion Lady Monarchs
Head Coach Wendy Larry
Overall opinion of the game
"I certainly want to talk about how proud I am of our basketball team. Under the circumstances, we certainly made some mistakes today. A little bit of shot clock awareness would have been helpful. We answered a run at the end. In this game you understand you make your own breaks. Maybe a little bit of preparation from the entire team for the entire season would have helped right now. Certainly, six against 11, we had the opportunity right down the stretch to make it a game. And again, I am proud of our basketball program."
Washington
Head Coach June Daugherty
"What a game. It's just really exciting. Old Dominion deserves a lot of credit. We had some great runs, especially in the second half. I think we went up as much as nine (points), and they just kept coming back."
"Defensively, it was a real challenge for us to rotate. Their patience on offense was really tough for us to get out on the three-point shooters. That's when they really established themselves to come back and get some momentum in the game."
"The team just played incredibly hard with a lot of intensity. I thought we got great help off the bench and that allowed us to be fresh down the stretch. Megan's (Franza) assist to Loree (Payne) is definitely the assist of the year to win the ballgame."
On setting up game-winning shot at timeout
"Old Dominion was switching up on different situations on the out-of-bounds. Sometimes they'd switch certain positions, sometimes they wouldn't. It was kind of a cat and mouse game all afternoon. Fortunately we got the read at the right time."
Megan Franza, Senior
On the calling the time out before the game-winning shot
"I was out of bounds and I was looking for the normal things that we do in out shots that we usually take, and they had it guarded pretty well. What we usually did wasn't open. Right as I was about to throw it and turn it over, I decided to call time out instead."
Loree Payne, Sophomore
On her heroic game-winning shot
"Me and Megan were just looking at each other and we were reading the defense, and I just went to the open spot and Megan hit me for it."
