Notes
Washington's win over WSU was its 11th-straight over the Cougars.
Washington's 91 points ties its season-high, reached previously in a triple overtime game versus USC, Jan. 4.
Washington's 12 three point baskets is also a season-high. The previous high was 10 at Arizona, Jan. 13.
Giuliana Mendiola, Loree Payne and Megan Franza each hit three (3) three point baskets in the game.
Ten of the 12 Huskies in the ballgame were in the scoring column today. Four Huskies reached double figures, led by Megan Franza's game-high 15 points. Giuliana Mendiola rebounded from a scoreless game at California last weekend to record 13 points in the game.
Senior forward Melissa Erickson (Littleton, Colo.) has a torn ACL in her right knee, suffered at the California game last Saturday, Jan. 27. She had an MRI Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury. Erickson, who had played in all 18 games this season, will have surgery Monday in Seattle. She concludes her collegiate career having played in 92 games over four years for the Huskies. She will graduate in June and plans to pursue a career in coaching basketball.
Freshman guard Gioconda Mendiola did not play today. She had surgery Thursday to repair a sprained right thumb. She is expected to return soon.
Washington head coach June Daugherty
"We take this week and this game very seriously. We don't take a day off
just because we only
have one game. It was a hard week of practice and I m pleased with how
everyone came out today. We made a big improvement on the defensive end. I
was pleased to see our offense score 91 points, but I was especially
pleased with our defensive effort. We played everyone today and they all
worked hard. We had a rough patch a few weeks ago, so it was nice to see
us get back in the flow. Every game is so precious in the Pac-10. You
can't
take anything or anyone for granted. Every game is precious in this race."
