The Washington-Stanford series has featured many milestones over the past two seasons. Today's win was the 200th for Washington head coach June Daugherty and the 520th in school history. Earlier this season, Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer earned her 200th Pac-10 win, against the Huskies. (1/25/01) Last year's Husky win over Stanford in Seattle was the 500th win all-time at UW. Washington and Stanford are the only two Pac-10 schools with 500 wins.
Today's attendance of 6,714 sets a new Bank of America Arena record.
Lindsey Yamasaki set a career-high with 34 points and established a new Pac-10 record for 3-point field goals made in a conference game, and tied the Stanford school record with nine. Yamasaki broke her own record of eight 3-pointers set Feb. 27, 1999 vs. Arizona. Two other players have also made eight 3-pointers in a conference game.
Stanford's 16 three-pointers equaled a Pac-10 record set by Washington earlier this season vs. Arizona (Feb. 8, 2001). Washington made its 16 three-pointers in just 29 attempts, while Stanford took 34. Two weeks ago, Stanford equaled the third-best three point shooting day in conference history, making 14 in a win over Oregon State.
The Cardinal made more 3-pointers (16) in tonight's game than 2-pointers (12). Stanford had nine 3-pointers in the first half, a season-high for the team and more than the Huskies had allowed in any complete game this season.
Washington trailed by as much as eight points with 12:22 remaining in the game, but then went on a 25-9 run over the next ten mintues to take a 79-73 lead. Andrea Lalum and Megan Franza combined for 16 of the 25 points.
Giuliana Mendiola and LeAnn Sheets each recorded double-doubles for the Huskies. Mendiola combined 11 points with 12 rebounds and five assists, while Sheets scored 12 and added 13 rebounds.
The 95 points scored by Washington were the most ever scored by the Huskies in the UW-Stanford series. Washington has scored 90 points or more three times in its last seven games.
Washington's 50 free-throw attempts were the most by any Pac-10 team this year, while its 34 completions were a season high and second most in the Pac-10 this year.
