Postgame Quotes From Washington-Boise State
December 03, 1999 | Women's Basketball
Washington Coach June Daugherty
ON BOISE STATE:
Boise State is a veteran team. Theyve won their first four so I think they came in really confident. They play with a lot of intensity and confidence and we knew they werent going to lay down.
ON BSUs SECOND HALF COMEBACK:
Its the first time weve been in a situation with that big of a lead and we have to learn to play with leads like that. I thought we got a little bit too relaxed. What we need to do is come out the first five minutes of the second half and really put teams away. We didnt do that but we will learn that.
ON FIRST HOME WIN:
Its nice. We were disappointed in how we came out in our first home game in Mercer Arena. Practice was way more intense, more physical and this type of schedule helps us to grow as a team and I think our team has really taken advantage of it over the last 12 days.
ON JILL PIMLEY:
Shes just flat out tough. Theres nothing that she wont do to get it done for her team. Shes the first one to hit the floor and really gets the defense stoked up to a whole different level. Her poise, especially when we looked like we were going to loose the lead, was critical tonight. She just kept playing hard on defense and kept us calm offensively and thats the kind of leadership you want from your point guard. It was exciting to see her do that down the stretch.
Washington Guard Megan Franza
ON UWS DEFENSE:
We did a good job in zone this week, weve worked on it a lot and its good that we can mix it up. Being able to mix it up like that without a decline in play is going to be a big weapon for us.
Washington Forward Kellie O'Neill
ON DOUBLE FIGURE REBOUNDS:
Im being more physical. I was playing timid for a while and Im finally getting back to the way I play.
Boise State Head Coach Trisha Stevens
(On how Boise State reacted when Washington went to a zone)
: "In the first half we had 16 turnovers and Washington did a great job of converting on those turnovers. The last seven possessions of the game we had six turnovers and they converted on five of them. I think that hurt us the most."
(On what Boise State did to get back in the game in the second half)
: "I think we just went back to what worked for us in games before and that's going inside early. I didn't think we did a good job of going inside in the second half, so we went back to establishing our game inside and that really got us back in the flow. We have to get the ball in Stephanie Block's hands and when we do good things happen and it opens it up the outside game".
(On how Washington compares to Boise State's previous opponents)
: "They have such great weapons on the perimeter with Megan Franza and Loree Payne. They are one of the better teams we've faced so far and that's good for us. That will make us better".
(On playing four consecutive road games)
: "Our goal in the preseason is to get better every time we step on the court. You can't let your highs get too high and your lows get too low. It felt great to be 4-0 and but we knew we had a tough road trip ahead of us. My goal is not to finish the preseason undefeated. My goal is to have our team get better every time we step on the court so we are ready going into conference to challenge for a championship and playing a team like Washington will help us do that".
(On coaching against mentor June Daugherty)
: "June and Mike and I are great friends and I have a ton of respect for them. June was basically my mentor so I have great respect for her. It's the kind of game that is really a mixed blessing where if you win great but if you lose you're happy for people you care about. Once you take the court you forget everything else and fight for a win".Aliyah's Bell Celebration with Washington Women's Basketball
