Pac-12 Hall of Famer and Husky legend Tina Frimpong Ellertson returned to her alma mater to join the Husky coaching staff in 2020. She is in her fourth season on head coach Nicole Van Dyke's staff as an assistant coach.
Frimpong Ellertson had a storied career at Washington and is still the program's all-time leader in goals scored and total points. On March 11, 2022, Frimpong Ellertson was inducted to the Pac-12 Hall of Fame. While donning a Husky kit, the Vancouver, Washington, native twice earned Pac-10 Player of the Year and earned All-American honors in 2003 and 2004. In her senior season, Frimpong Ellerston led the Huskies to their first-ever Elite Eight appearance.
Since returning to Montlake, Frimpong Ellertson has assisted in the development of five All-Pac-12 performers, including four-time all-league standout and 2020 All-American Summer Yates as well as 2020 First Team All-Pac-12 performer Ameera Hussen.
During the 2021 season, The Huskies finished in the Top 5 in conference standings for the third consecutive season, finishing the season with a 4-4-3 mark in conference play. The following year, Frimpong Ellertson helped the Huskies off to an undefeated non-conference season, the first ever on Montlake, and a No. 15 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The Dawgs finished the season on a high note, defeating Washington State 3-2 for the Huskies' first win in Pullman since well before Frimpong Ellertson's playing days in 1996.
In her first season coaching at Washington, Frimpong Ellertson helped the Huskies making their sixth Sweet Sixteen appearance and first since 2014. The Huskies finished third in the Pac-12 and spent six straight weeks ranked, their longest streak in the rankings since 2004. At the end of the season, the Huskies were ranked 15th in the United Soccer Coaches poll, their highest end-of-year ranking in over a decade and their third-highest ever.
Prior to returning to Seattle, Frimpong Ellertson spent eight years working with U.S. Soccer, in both coaching and talent identification roles. In 2012, Frimpong Ellertson served as a U.S. Youth National Team coach. She returned to that role from 2015-19. From 2017 to 2020, U.S. Soccer's youth teams went a combined 59-11-14 in international competition.
Frimpong Ellertson coached at King's Way High School for six years, earning Coach of the Year honors in the league in 2017. She coached three different teams at the Salmon Creek Soccer Club for a decade and served as the Portland Thorns Academy U17 coach for two seasons.
Before breaking into coaching, Frimpong Ellertson was a member of the U.S. National Team for five years, playing in the 2007 Women's World Cup. She also played in Women's Professional Soccer and the National Women's Soccer League, winning the inaugural NWSL Championship with the Portland Thorns in 2013.
