Kolo Suliafu Signs Professional Contract With Kansas City Current
December 16, 2025 | Women's Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Washington senior defender Kolo Suliafu has signed a one-year contract with the NWSL's Kansas City Current, announced Tuesday by the club.
The 2025 Big Ten Defender of the Year, Suliafu becomes the fifth active former Husky in the NWSL, joining Shae Holmes and Olivia Van der Jagt (Seattle Reign FC), Olivia Sekany (Racing Louisville FC), and 2024 NWSL Champion Summer Yates (Orlando Pride).
"We couldn't be happier for Kolo," UW head coach Nicole Van Dyke said. "This is a testament to her hard work and growth as a player and person over the last four years. She's a true competitor and teammate whose on-field leadership was the backbone of our defensive organization. Watching her set goals each year and seeing her not only achieve them, but continue to stretch herself, has been a true joy. We can't wait to see her impact continue at the professional level."
A two-time All-Big Ten and United Soccer Coaches All-North Region selection, Suliafu concluded her Husky career with 81 appearances, making 71 starts in Purple and Gold. Washington secured 33 clean sheets with Suliafu in the lineup, including 31 with the Ontario, California, native in the starting XI.
A multi-year captain, Suliafu spearheaded one of the nation's elite defenses in recent years, with the Huskies setting school records for fewest goals conceded (12) in 2024 and clean sheets (12) in 2025.
One of the most decorated players in program history, Suliafu is one of six Huskies all-time to be named a United Soccer Coaches All-American, earning a Second Team nod this past season.
