
Washington Drops Game One To Gonzaga

SEATTLE – The Huskies dropped the first of two games against Gonzaga on Monday, falling 9-2 at Husky Ballpark.
Washington moves to 17-15 with the loss.
The Bulldogs plated four in the first and held onto the lead throughout the contest. Washington answered with two in the fourth, but couldn't find the extra runs to reel the Bulldogs back in.
Liam Lierman earned the start for the Huskies and tossed 3.0 innings. After allowing four runs and four hits in the first inning, the freshman settled in and pitched two more scoreless frames, adding two strikeouts.
Jaxson Gore took over for the fourth and fifth innings and allowed just one hit against three strikeouts.
Sam DeCarlo started off the fourth inning with a leadoff double before advancing to third on a groundout. He took advantage of a wild pitch to get the Huskies on the board.
Blake Wilson then scored from first base on a Ty Cowan double, but Cowan was caught trying to reach third to end the inning.
Jack Wade, Peysen Sweeney, Tyler Walker, and Jay Miller combined to close out the game, pitching the final four frames of the contest.
Sam DeCarlo led the Husky hitters, tallying two hits on the day including his double in the fourth inning.
Washington will look to bounce back against Gonzaga on Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the final game of the home stand.
