Ninth Inning DeCarlo Dinger Pushes Huskies Past Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Huskies earned a thrilling 6-4 win over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, taking down the Eagles with a go-ahead ninth inning home run from Sam DeCarlo.

Washington improves to 20-24 with the win.

The Huskies jumped in front first, scoring one in the first inning and two more in the third to open up a 3-0 lead.

The Huskies held the Eagles at bay for much of the game, but in the sixth, the hosts found some offense. Eastern Michigan scored on a three-run home run to tie the game.

Two innings later, the same player homered again to put Eastern Michigan ahead 4-3.

With two on and one out in the top of the ninth inning, Sam DeCarlo stepped up to the plate. On a 1-2 count, the senior shortstop belted the ball to deep right field, firing the Huskies back in front.

It was DeCarlo's sixth home run of the year and put Washington back in the driver's seat.

Gunnar Nichols slammed the door in the ninth, forcing three popouts to center field to secure the victory.

Nichols was credited with the win after pitching the final 1.1 innings of the game. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

Jaxson Gore earned the start, throwing 3.0 innings with no hits allowed, four walks, and one strikeout.

Braeden Terry, Jackson Hotchkiss, Sam DeCarlo, and Casen Taggart each recorded two hits on the day. Washington as a team had 12 hits, compared to six for Eastern Michigan.

The Huskies return to action on Friday afternoon, beginning a three-game series with Oregon at Husky Ballpark.
