Huskies Drop Game Two To Northwestern
March 29, 2026 | Baseball
Washington moves to 11-15 and 5-6 in Big Ten play.
Colton Bower continued his monstrous stretch, recording his eighth straight game with a hit. His first knock of the game came in the bottom of the first in the form of a three-run home run to deep right field.
The long ball was Bower's seventh of the season and went 425 feet. He has six homers in Big Ten conference games, the most of any player in league competition.
Bower now has eight multi-hit games on the season, the joint lead on the team with Sam DeCarlo.
The Huskies used a pair of runs in the second and two more in the third to open up a 7-3 advantage over the Wildcats.
In the second, Braeden Terry scored Jackson Hotchkiss on an RBI double before Bower brought home Terry with an RBI single. In the third, Washington capitalized on two wild pitches to plate two more runs.
The Wildcats found their footing offensively in the final four frames. After a solo shot in the fourth, Northwestern scored three in the sixth, one in the eighth, and two in the ninth.
Heading to the bottom of the ninth, Washington trailed 10-7 and needed three runs to extend the game.
Daniel Porras reached on a single before Sam DeCarlo laced a 382-foot home run to left field to bring the Huskies back within one run.
Next up, Blake Wilson tagged a triple to right center, placing the tying run just 90 feet away from home plate. Washington was unable to find the necessary play to score Wilson however.
Bower, DeCarlo, and Wilson each had two hits on the day, leading the team to 12 total knocks in the game. Bower contributed four of the seven RBIs for the Huskies.
Gunnar Nichols earned the start, throwing 4.0 innings with four runs, three walks, and four strikeouts. Tommy Brandenburg pitched 3.0 frames in relief, also allowing four hits with three runs and four strikeouts.
Jackson Thomas and Jaxson Gore each pitched one inning, with Thomas taking the eighth and Gore the ninth.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday and will look to take the series against Northwestern. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
