SEATTLE — Washington junior point guard Sayvia Sellers has been named a Regional Finalist for the Coaches' All-America Team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Sellers becomes the first Washington player selected to the WBCA All-Region Team since Kelsey Plum and Chantel Osahor in 2016-17. The 10-member WBCA Coaches' All-America Team will be announced in early April.
Recently tabbed as a member of the All-Big Ten First Team, Sellers has helped the Huskies earn a six-seed in the NCAA Tournament and the first 20-plus win season since 2016-17. She's helped do so by averaging a career-high 18.5 points per game and dishing out 3.7 assists per game.
The Anchorage, Alaska native has twice been named a USBWA Player of the Week, most recently after scoring a career-best 38 points, along with six assists, four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in a gutsy road win against No. 16 Maryland. She also recorded 29 points on the road at Oregon to improve Washington's Big Ten Tournament seeding and earn a spot on the conference Weekly Honor Roll. She has scored 20 or more points in 13 games this season and recorded four or more assists in 16 games.
This season, she has performed at her best against some of the top teams in the country. Against AP-ranked opponents or teams receiving votes, Sellers is averaging 18.7 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.8 steals in 10 games. She has scored in double figures in each of those games and is shooting 43.2% from the field.
A member of the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Late-Season Team, Sellers scored her 1,000th career point against Northwestern in January. She is one of two qualified Big Ten players to average 48.0% from the field and 35.0% from behind the 3-point line. She enters the NCAA Tournament with over 1,300 career points and 300 assists.
Up next, Washington prepares to take on South Dakota State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 20. Hosted in TCU's Schollmaier Arena, the game will tip-off at 11:30 a.m. PT and air on ESPN News.
