Huskies Score First Big Ten Win of 2026, Defeating Purdue

Seattle - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team opened their Big Ten homestand tonight with a 4-3 win against the Purdue University Boilermarkers. This win now puts Washington at (7-8) on the season and (1-2) in Big Ten play, as the Huskies return to play Sunday, as they host Indiana at noon.
With their first Doubles point in almost a month of play, the Huskies took the lead after No. 58 Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson, opened with a 6-3, first set win of the match, followed by the point clinching win by sophomore duo of Stephane Kamendje and Rohan Belay closing out their match 6-3. Of note, Nikola Plavsic and Daniel Bien held a 4-3 lead as doubles expired.
From Singles play, Soham returned to form cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Purdue's Nour Fathalla. This was followed by an equally impressive 6-2, 6-4 victory from Stephane Kamendje over Boilermarker's No. 2 Henrik Villanger. Senior Brett Pearson impressed this evening, with a first set 7-6(6) loss, which took the length of both of Soham's sets before ending the night 2-3 before matches were called. Freshman Daniel Bien, not to be outdone himeself picked up a set win from the second set, winning 6-4 to force a third set. As Rohan Belday would go to clinch the match with a 6-4 win in the second set, ending the match by what would become a 4-3 win over Purdue. The other pair of matches would be played out, as both Daniel Bien and Brett Pearson would complete their matches as Dan forced a third set and Brett forced another 7-6 tiebreak deciding match.
