PARIS – Congratulations are in order for former Husky great Clement Chidekh, class of 2022. Clement qualified and competed in the Roland-Garros, the French Open, for his first time since turning pro. Clement currently holds the ATP World rank of 177th in singles and 213th in doubles.
In his debut match at the tournament on May 19th, a first qualifying round singles match of an hour and a half, Clement faced off against Austria's Joel Schwaer. Chidekh would go down 6-1 in the first set before rallying in the second, ultimately dropping the match 7-5 in his first performance of the tournament.
Chidekh also made his Roland-Garros debut in doubles. Alongside fellow French countryman and ATP World Singles No. 74, Valentin Royer, the duo lost 7-6(3). 6-4, in the first round of the Main Doubles Draw on May 26th in a match that lasted an hour and forty minutes. After going up 4-2 in the first set, Bellucci/Marozsan rallied back to tie 4–4 before ultimately saving the tie breaker to win the set. In the second set, Bellucci/Marozsan would lead for the majority of the set winning after breaking in the seventh game to extend a lead before ending the ninth and final game with a pair of aces and winning a 14-rally point to close the match.
Despite the losses at this Grand Slam event, the 2026 season has been a positive one for Clement as he has captured two ATP Challenger Finals, going back-to-back in Nottingham and Glasgow in January and providing quality performances leading up to the tournament with a quarter-final appearance at the ATP Challenger event at Wuning, China in April and a semi-final appearance at the event in Saint Brieuc, France in February. Clement will be looking to build on these performances for the rest of the 2026 campaign with the next Grand Slam event, Wimbledon, taking place this time next month.
