Huskies Impress Despite Dropping Match 4-3 Versus Ranked Indiana
March 15, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Seattle - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team closed their Big Ten homestand tonight with an impressive performance despite dropping the match against the Hoosiers of Indiana University. With this result, Washington is now (7-9) on the season and (1–3) in Big Ten play. The Huskies return to play Saturday afternoon, as they host PNW and former Pac-12 rival Oregon at 2 p.m.
What a way to start! Doubles began with a fast start, with all matches holding an early lead. Huskies' number one pair and No. 58 nationally ranked Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson opened the match with a back-and-forth match against Indiana's number one duo, outlasting the Hoosiers' pair 5-4 before matches were called. Stephane Kamendje and Rohan Belday at the Huskies two would also see themselves in a back-and-forth affair with the Hoosiers number three, coming back from a 2-4 deficit, however, ultimately dropping the match 6-3. From the number two, Nikola Plavsic and Daniel Bien would draw the Hoosiers number two, and No. 57 nationally ranked pair. Despite a great effort, Bien and Plavsic would drop that match 1-6.
From Singles play, Soham once again cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 victory, this time over Indiana's Sam Landau. This was followed by an equally impressive 6-0, 7-6(3) victory from Stephane Kamendje over the Hoosiers' No. 2 Jip van Assendelft. Sophomore Rohan Belday impressed this evening, with a second-set 7-6(2) back-and-forth defeat. Senior Brett Pearson would start the match strong, with a first set win 7-6. However, Brett would drop a highly contested second set 6-4 before going down with a 6-2 defeat in the third.
Freshman Daniel Bien and Hyeonseok Seo, not to be outdone themselves, picked up a pair of third-set duals. These matches would go back-and-forth in the third set after both men opened with first-set wins and second-set losses. In the third set, Daniel Bien capitalized first, finishing off Hoosiers' number six Braedan Gelletich with a 6-4 comeback third set and match win. Hyeonseok Seo would decide the fate of the match as the freshman would need to complete the comeback and upset of No. 60 Indiana. Very reminiscent of the match a few weeks back versus Tulane, Hyeon would be placed in the position to win the match from a 6-6 tiebreak; however, unlike that Tulane match, the Huskies would not emerge victorious despite the impressive performances.
