LOS ANGELES β Washington earned its first win of the season on Friday, taking down LMU 8-3. The Dawgs improves to 1-4 on the campaign.

The Huskies capitalized on a dominant first start in the purple and gold by Noah Kenney to secure the victory.

Kenney built on a strong relief appearance in Puerto Rico last weekend. In just his second appearance for the Diamond Dawgs, he tossed 5.0 scoreless and hitless innings with eight total strikeouts against the Lions.

Washington also made the most ofΒ a strong offense and poor defending from the Lions. The Huskies tallied six hits and forced three errors by the hosts.

The scoring began in the second inning when a Braeden Terry bunt single brought home the first run of the game. The Dawgs poured it on the third, tacking on four runs.

Colton Bower provided two of them on an RBI single through the left side while the bases were loaded.

Washington added another in the fifth before Daniel Porras launched a two-run homer in the sixth. Porras is the third Husky to hit a home run this season and it's the freshman's first home run of his career.

Braeden Terry let all Huskies with three hits on the night in four at bats. He also tagged the first triple of the season for Washington.

Jackson Thomas took over on the bump in the sixth and pitched three innings for Washington. The Lions were able to connect for five hits and three runs, but Thomas fanned four batters during his relief appearance.

Tommy Brandenburg then took the mound to finish the day. He pitched a clean ninth inning with one strikeout to secure the victory for Washington.
