SEATTLE – The Dempsey indoor track season wrapped up with another barnburner, with senior Chloe Foerster capping her Husky home career with her first School Record at the 800-meters distance. Foerster became the first UW woman to break two-minutes indoors, running 1:59.91.
Foerster's mark, which puts her in the top-10 all-time in NCAA history indoors, is her third School Record just this season. She also broke the mile record two weeks back in a time of 4:25.79 and crushed the 1,000-meters record in 2:37.79 back at the UW Preview.
It was the one School Record on the final day of the Husky Classic, but there was also a No. 2 time in Husky history in the men's 5,000-meters from Evan Jenkins, the No. 3 and No. 7 marks in the women's 3k from Julia David-Smith and Mia Cochran, and the No. 5 and No. 8 marks in the women's 800m from Chloe Symon and Jenica Swartz.
The Don Kirby Elite Invitational also came to a close in Albuquerque. The women's pole vault and the triple jumps were on the docket, with Hana Moll leading the way as she shared the win with a 15-1 make.
Husky Classic Day Two
One day after the women's DMR raced their way to the No. 2 time in the nation this season, all four legs were back for more racing this afternoon.
Chloe Symon and Jenica Swartz were up first in the open 800-meter heats. They ran in the top section prior to the invite, and Symon powered to a victory in a time of 2:03.70, which jumps her up to No. 5 in school history. Swartz also ran a season-best of 2:04.57 to move her up to No. 8 all-time.
The DMR lead leg on Friday was Foerster, who doubled back to break the 800m record in the invitational heat in one of the fastest races in NCAA history. The top four women, all current collegians, all ran 1:59, with Penn State's Hayley Kitching winning in 1:59.22. Foerster was fourth overall in 1:59.91, breaking Carley Thomas's indoor record of 2:00.95 from 2024.
The anchor of the DMR last night was Cochran, and she was back to battle another elite field in the invite section of the 3,000-meters, alongside Julia David-Smith. David-Smith cut seven seconds off her indoor PR in 8:54.66, going to No. 4 in Husky history. Cochran also ran a career-best of 8:57.00, good for the new No. 7 mark.
The women's 5,000-meter invite featured school record-holder Chloe Thomas looking to improve her NCAA standing. Thomas turned in a great run of 15:32.03, but it was not a PR.
In the women's mile today, Isabel Olson improved her PR once again to 4:42.33. Josephine Welin ran 4:43.34 and Gioana Lopizzo crossed in 4:55.94.
The big race on the men's side today was the invite 5k, with Evan Jenkins measuring himself against a loaded field made up of SEC and Big 12 standouts. Jenkins worked his way up to lead the chase pack behind four leaders, and he held that spot to finish fifth in 13:22.28. That was a 13-second lifetime best for Jenkins, and the No. 2 time in Husky history indoors, behind only Brian Fay's 13:16.77 from 2023.
Former Husky great Joe Waskom was the winner of the men's 800-meters in 1:46.76, and Tyler Bilyard posted the top time among current Dawgs today in 1:49.53. Freshmen Owen Powell and Josiah Tostenson ran 1:49.81 and 1:50.15, respectively.
Don Kirby Day Two
On the second day of action at the ABQ Convention Center, UW's vaulters and jumpers got in more quality competition, led by another win in the pole vault for Hana Moll.
Coming off her first 16-foot clearance two weeks ago, Hana made 15-1 today and then had three misses at 15-5, but that left her squarely tied with Gabriela Leon, a top American professional vaulter. They had a jump-off starting with one more attempt at 15-5, and this time Moll made it to take the win.
Sara Borton equaled her career-best with a make of 14-5 1/4, and Veronica Vacca also made that height today, just slightly off her best. Amanda Moll did not compete this weekend.
Jonathan Frazier had a 60m hurdles time today of 8.11 seconds and Teko Cates went 8.78 seconds the day after his big high jump PR.
In the triple jumps, Rachel Bir improved her indoor PR to 39-9 1/4 to finish 19th overall. Ava Washburn had a mark of 39-4. For the men, Trevontay Smith went 48-11 3/4 and Roman Hutchinson went 47-2 1/2.
Sofia Cosculluela made her season debut, working on her shot put, going 40-9 3/4.
