Washington Men’s Tennis Hosts Valentine’s Day Doubleheader
February 13, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Washington vs Santa Clara; vs Portland State
SEATTLE - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team (4-3) hosts Santa Clara University (6-2) and Portland State University (2-5) on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. Pacific from the Nordstrom Tennis Center. This doubleheader meeting on Saturday marks the 13th meeting all-time between the Huskies and Broncos and the 6th meeting with the Vikings, with the Huskies holding a 10-2 & 5-0 lead in those series.
The Huskies return to play at full strength this week, as Rohan Belday was sidelined with an illness late last week. This full-strength Huskies side will have all they can handle this Valentine's Day, as they host a pair of matches against West Coast adversaries in an impressive Santa Clara side and Portland State, making the short trip up to Seattle.
The Broncos have been impressive so far in 2026 with wins over two Power Five institutions, Alabama (2-5) and Oregon (7-2). Santa Clara brings to Seattle the 17th-ranked doubles side of Luca Bluett / John Kim, which should be the first ranked matchup for the Huskies 63rd-ranked duo of Soham Purohit / Brett Pearson.
The Huskies will be looking forward to returning to play, as they split last weekend's matches to go 1-1 on the weekend versus Portland and Gonzaga. The Dawgs will look to capitalize on strong recent performances by 121st-ranked player Soham Purohit and sophomores Stephane Kamendje and Rohan Belday. As both Soham and Stephane enter the weekend riding a four-match unbeaten run, with Rohan also holding a two-match unbeaten streak in singles play.
Looking to provide leadership to the squad, senior and half of the 63rd-ranked doubles pairing, Brett Pearson, will be looking to improve upon his recent singles form with multiple impressive third set losses over the past weekend. With the short turnaround between matches, the experienced senior will look to rally the boys between matches as he's played in a combined 160 matches across singles and doubles for the Huskies in his career.
Rounding out the lineup, Husky freshmen Daniel Bien and Hyeonseok Seo will look to return to their early-season forms, as the pair has split matches in the past few weekends, but have developed into an interesting doubles pair with the absence of Rohan, Hyeonseok's typical doubles partner, last weekend. While sophomore Nikola Plavsic looks to improve his doubles standing with Stephane Kamendje as the No. 2 duo, as the pair are on a three-match unbeaten run heading into Saturday's doubleheader.
