Dawgs Fight Back To Earn 1-1 Draw Against No. 24 Northwestern
September 18, 2025 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – The Washington women's soccer team fell behind early in the second half against No. 24 Northwestern but fought back for a crucial point to remain tied atop the Big Ten table Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
Kalea Eichenberger got the Huskies back into the match, scoring her first goal of the season and third in a UW kit.
On the night the Huskies had the better of chances, outshooting the Wildcats 14-6. The Dawgs put nine shots on frame, forcing NU keeper Nyamma Nelson into a career-high eight saves.
Washington came out of the gates on the front foot, utilizing the speed of forward Alex Buck to put the Wildcats on their heels, firing off several shots in the early minutes to test Nelson.
Jadyn Holdenried came mere inches short of putting the Huskies on top in the 42nd minute, clattering her shot from just outside the 18 off the right post.
Washington found itself down for just the second time all season in the 51st minute on a spilled ball in the box, with Caterina Regazzoni capitalizing to put NU up 1-0.
The Huskies kept up the fight and in the 72nd minute Eichenberger made it count, running onto Alex Buck's ball to the top of the 18, sending her left footed shot into the side netting on the left of side of the goal, leveling the score.
Washington thought it had secured the winner just over 10 minutes later when Kelsey Branson's header trickled into the goal in the 86th minute. However, the flag came up and the call stood on VAR review for offside.
The draw puts Washington on four points, tied with five other teams atop the Big Ten table.
UW will do battle with one of those five sides on Sunday, hosting Illinois at 1:00 p.m. PT at Husky Soccer Stadium. The match will stream live on B1G+.
