Huskies Take Down Seattle U At Home, Extend Win Streak To Five

SEATTLE โ The Huskies extended their win streak on Tuesday, reaching five straight wins after defeating Seattle U 4-3 at Husky Ballpark.
Washington is now 17-17 on the season while Seattle U drops to 12-20.
The Huskies secured a late comeback in the game, having not held the lead until the bottom of the eighth inning.ย
Seattle U scored two runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead. The Huskies responded with one in the second, an RBI ground out from Colin Blanchard to score Blake Wilson.
There was no scoring by either team until the seventh, when each team scored a run. Seattle U scored with a bases-loaded walk before Gunnar Nichols struck out a batter for the first out of the inning.
Then, after catching a fly out in center field, Malakhi Knight threw a laser to home plate to catch the tagging up runner at home and end the top of the inning.ย
In the bottom half, Braeden Terry drove in AJ Guerrero with a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game again, with Seattle U in front 3-2.
In the eighth, Casen Taggart hit a bases-loaded single to tie the game before Malakhi Knight used an RBI ground out to put the Huskies in front.
The top of the ninth saw Isaac Yeager take the mound, striking out two and forcing a fly out to end the game. Yeager earned his third save in the process.
The Diamond Dawgs used a by-committee approach on the mound, with five different pitchers getting action in the game. Bradley Gilbert made the start, tossing 2.0 inning with two hits and two runs allowed.
Tommy Brandenburg tossed the next 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit before Peysen Sweeney took over. He also threw 2.0 innings, allowing one run.
Gunnar Nichols pitched the seventh and the eighth, striking out four batters without allowing a hit. Then Isaac Yeager took over to close out the game.
Offensively, AJ Guerrero, Casen Taggart, and Blake Wilson led the Huskies with two hits each. Wilson and Guerrero each recorded doubles on Tuesday as well.
The Huskies will look to continue the win streak in Los Angeles this weekend, facing UCLA for a Big Ten series on the road.
