Washington Inks SoCon Player Of The Year Quimari Peterson
April 05, 2025 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington head men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle has announced the signing of reigning SoCon Player of the Year Quimari Peterson out of the transfer portal.
Peterson will come to UW after four collegiate seasons, two at the JUCO level and the past two at East Tennessee State. The senior guard was named a finalist for the 2025 Lou Henson award, given annually to the top player in the nation from a mid-major program, and is one of the top-10 point guards in the transfer portal per On3.
"We are excited to add Quimari to our program, adding an experienced guard who can play multiple positions because of his ability to shoot and facilitate," Sprinkle said. "He is tremendous guarding the basketball and plays with the toughness and physicality we need in the Big Ten. The trait I love the most is he is a winner and has won at every level, from high school to junior college and at ETSU."
Peterson proved himself to be the SoCon's top talent by a wide margin, leading the league in field goals, points, points per game, steals, steals per game and three point field goal percentage, pacing the SoCon in conference play by nearly two full points at 20.0 PPG.
The Gary, Indiana, native dropped double digit points in 31-of-32 games for ETSU this season, including 15 20+ point outings. Peterson poured in a career-high 31 points at Chattanooga, also posting 30 points at Kansas City in non-conference play. Peterson's 19.5 points per game were the 28th most in the nation, becoming the 10th ETSU player all-time to score 600+ points in a season.
Peterson was a sniper from behind the arc, shooting 42.0 percent from three in 2024-25. The 6-1 guard knocked down at least three triples 16 times this past season, sinking 7-of-13 attempts from deep vs. UNC Greensboro, following up the next game making 6-of-9 attempts from three at Wofford. Peterson posted a double double in both games, racking up 29 points and 13 rebounds against UNCG and 27 points and 10 rebounds against the Terriers.
In his first season at ETSU, Peterson secured First Team All-SoCon laurels, averaging 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while dishing out a team-high 131 assists over 35 starts. Peterson began his career at John A. Logan College in Cartersville, Illinois, leading the Vols to their first-ever NJCAA National Championship.
