
Hotchkiss and Terry Homer As Huskies Hold On For 5-4 Series-Clinching Win

SEATTLE โ The Diamond Dawgs held on for a close 5-4 win over Purdue on Saturday, clinching their third Big Ten series win and securing a third consecutive win.

Washington improves to 15-17 on the season and 7-4 in conference play while Purdue falls to 20-10 and 3-8 in Big Ten contests.

The Huskies opened the scoring right away as Casen Taggart drove home AJ Guerrero with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.

Then, the Huskies used two two-run homers, one in the second inning and one in the third, to build an early lead. Jackson Hotchkiss hit the first, his third of the season, and his second in the last three games. Braeden Terry contributed the second long ball, bringing the Husky run total to five.

Washington owns anย 8-2 when hitting two or more home runs.

Jackson Thomas pitched another strong outing, throwing 5.0 innings with only three hits and one run allowed. He also struck out seven batters, tying his career-high.ย
It was Thomas's sixth start in a row with at least 5.0 innings pitched.

Josh Emanuels contributed 3.1 innings in relief and pitched through the first out in the ninth inning. After hitting a batter with one out and one runner on, Isaac Yeager took over on the bump.

Despite having pitched on Friday night, Yeager was up for the challenge. He allowed a pair of singles and a fielder's choice which scored two runs and brought Purdue within one, but he held strong under the pressure.

ย Yeager struck out the final batter to close out the game, earning the save in the process.

The Boilermakers recorded six hits on the night, two more than the Huskies. But Purdue also left 10 runners on base, thanks to clutch pitching and situational play from the Diamond Dawgs.

The Huskies now have a chance to earn a sweep during Sunday's series finale. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. at Husky Ballpark.
