
Washington Smacks Four Home Runs And Secure Fifth Big Ten Series Win

The Huskies improve to 24-20 on the season and 13-7 in Big Ten play while Northwestern falls to 18-22 and 8-12 in the conference.

The top of the batting order put the Dawgs in the driver's seat immediately on Saturday. In the first at bat of the game, Casen Taggart ripped his fifth home run of the season to put Washington in front.

Each team added a run in the second, but in the third, the Huskies extended the lead in a big way. AJ Guerrero launched his seventh homer of the season, his third in as many games, to give the Diamond Dawgs a 4-1 advantage.

Guerrero brings his career total to 40, just one shy of third place all-time and two behind the Washington program record.

In the next at bat, Sam DeCarlo hit one of his own, his team-leading eighth of the season, pushing the lead to four.

The Huskies went on to plate four more in the fourth before adding yet another home run in the sixth. Jackson Hotchkiss roped his fourth long ball of the season and the first grand slam of his career to give Washington 13 runs on the day.

The Huskies would add one more in the seventh before closing out the victory in the bottom half of the inning.

To start the series against Northwestern, Washington is batting .479 as a team with 33 runs scored on 35 hits, seven doubles, and five home runs. The top of the batting order has been hugely productive, with AJ Guerrero going 7-8 with two homers and five runs batted in, Casen Taggart at 6-7 with a. home run, and Sam DeCarlo at 5-9 with a home run.

Seven Huskies recorded multiple hits on Saturday, leading Washington to 16 knocks in total.

Jackson Thomas delivered another quality start, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing just five hits and two runs with two strikeouts. He's now got six starts of at least 5.0 innings pitched with two or less runs allowed.
