
Huskies Fall to No. 5 Oregon State At Hillsboro Ballpark

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Washington dropped its midweek matchup against No. 5 Oregon State by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday.
The Huskies fall to 11-15 on the year while Oregon State improves to 19-4.
Washington conceded the first run, but tied the game up in the third inning and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Colton Bower used a sacrifice fly to bring home AJ Guerrero to score the first UW run and then Matthew Henning drove home Sam DeCarlo with an RBI single in the fourth.
The Huskies held the lead into the fifth, but the Beavers added two in the bottom to take a 3-2 advantage. Oregon State added two more in the seventh to conclude the scoring.
Tommy Brandenburg made the start for Washington on Tuesday and threw 5.0 innings, allowing six hits, three runs, two of which were earned, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Brandenburg flashed the leather in the second inning, grabbing a grounder up the middle behind his back before throwing the runner out at first base to end the inning.
Gunnar Nichols took the mound in the sixth, working a scoreless inning before Will Woodward pitched the seventh. Woodward allowed three hits and two runs while striking out one.
Peysen Sweeney pitched the eighth inning for the Huskies, allowing one hit.
Offensively, Sam DeCarlo and AJ Guerrero led Washington with two hits each. Blake Wilson, Malakhi Knight, and Henning delivered the three other hits for the Huskies.
Colton Bower provided an RBI on the night and recorded his 13th hit by pitch this season, the ninth-most in the NCAA.
The Diamond Dawgs return to conference play this weekend, facing Rutgers in New Jersey for a three-game series.
