SEATTLE – No. 22 Washington kicks off the 2025 season at the Candrea Classic on Friday with a pair of Top 25 matchups. The Huskies are set to face No. 11 Alabama, No. 16 Arizona and Western Michigan over the five-game opening weekend.
All non-Arizona games will be available to stream on FloCollege. The two games versus the Wildcats will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Live stats for all games will be through HuskyStats.com.

A NEW ERA FOR WASHINGTON
The 2024-25 athletic year marks the inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference for Washington Athletics. On Aug. 2, 2024, the Huskies became official members of the Big Ten along with UCLA, USC and Oregon.
RANKING ROUNDUP
Washington enters the 2025 season at No. 22 in the preseason NFCA poll. It marks 248 consecutive polls the Huskies have been ranked in. The last time UW was not in the Top 25 was the final poll in 2008.
OPENING WEEKEND SUCCESS
Dating back to 2014, the Huskies are 48-5 during opening weekend. In 2023, the Huskies went 4-1 at the Mark Campbell Invitational with the lone loss coming against Oklahoma. In 2024, UW went 3-1 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with the lone also coming against the Sooners in extra innings. Prior to that, Washington went undefeated the previous three seasons over opening weekend.
DAWGS WORLDWIDE
This summer, freshman Morgan Reimer played for the Canadian Junior National Team at the U-18 Softball World Cup Group Stage, helping the team qualify for the 2025 World Cup. During the event, Reimer posted a 0.00 ERA with a 2-0 record over 14.2 innings. She struck out 29 batters and threw a perfect game against Australia. Additional this past summer, head coach Heather Tarr and former Husky Sis Bates led Team USA to a silver medal at the WBSC World Cup Finals. Taran Alvelo joined Team Puerto Rico for the World Cup. Baylee Klingler represented Team USA in the Japan All-Star Series. Representing Team Mexico this summer were Lindsay Lopez and Jillian Celis at the Canada Cup.

Washington has a tough schedule ahead with eight teams ranked on receiving votes in the preseason NFCA poll. The Huskies open the season with four of their first five games against a ranked team in No. 11 Alabama and No. 16 Arizona.
ROAD DAWGS
The Huskies will open the first five weeks of the season in the road beginning at the Candrea Classic (Feb. 7-9). Washington will then head back down to The Grand Canyon State for the Littlewood Classic (Feb. 14-16). The Dawgs will continue their road swing with a 12-day trip beginning at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (Feb. 20-23) then traveling to Northridge for the first mid-week contest of the season versus CSUN On Feb. 24. UW will then head over to Hawaii for the OUTRIGGER Invitational (Feb. 26- March 1). The final tournament of the season will come at the Black and Orange Classic in Pocatello, Idaho (March 8-10). In total the Dawgs will travel almost 11,200 miles over the first five weeks. Washington will make their first appearance at Husky Softball Stadium for the Big Ten opener against Oregon March 14-16.

Alabama begins the season as the 11th-ranked team in the NFCA and USA Softball polls. The Crimson Tide finished the 2024 season with a record of 39-20 and made an appearance in the Women's College World Series. Abby Duchscherer returns for the Tide after being Top 5 on the team last season in batting average (.257), at bats (136), home runs (6) and RBI (30). Sophomore pitcher Jocelyn Briski will lead the pitching staff after posting a 2.20 ERA with 10 wins and 78 strikeouts over 105 innings. Briski was named to the preseason All-SEC team.
ALL-TIME VS. ALABAMA
Washington leads the all-time series against Alabama, 10-6. The last meeting came on February 13, 2020 in Clearwater, Fla. with the Crimson Tide winning 8-0. Prior to that, the Huskies won the last six meetings.

The Wildcats finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 37-18-1 and advanced to Super Regionals. In the Big 12 preseason poll, the Wildcats were selected to finish third. The Wildcats had a pair of players named to the USA Softball Top 53 Watch List in Dakota Kennedy and Regan Shockey. Both were also selected to the preseason All-Big 12 team. Kennedy, a Third Team All-American a season ago, hit .400 with 13 home runs while leading Arizona with 42 walks.

Arizona leads the all-time series against Washington, 72-44. UW has won seven of the last nine meetings in Tucson.

Western Michigan finished the 2024 season with a record of 27-22 under first year head coach Marlee Wilson. Two-way player Kailey O'Connor returns for the Broncos after posting a 2.45 ERA with a 5-3 record in 17 appearances. At the plate, O'Connor posted a .265 average. This summer she competed for Ireland's U-22 team at the European Championship. Riley Dittmar was second on the team with a .345 average with a team-leading 15 doubles, 22 walks and three home runs.
