Softball Season Ends In Loss To South Florida In Fayetteville Regional
May 16, 2026 | Softball
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Washington softball team's incredible season came to an end on Saturday evening as the Huskies fell 4-6 to South Florida at Bogle Park.
The Huskies conclude the regular season 37-20 with a 16-8 Big Ten record in their second season in the conference.
The Dawgs went 1-1 on the day and went 1-2 overall in Fayetteville, starting the day with a 5-2 win over Fordham to force a rematch of last night's battle with South Florida later in the day.
Washington vs. Fordham
Seven Dawgs recorded a hit in the 5-2 win over Fordham, led by Kaycie Burdick who went 3-for-4 on the game.
Alexis DeBoer and Jadyn Glab rounded out a trio of Huskies who had multi-hit games, both finishing 2-for-4.
Washington got on the board first thanks to an RBI single in the third from DeBoer that helped score Burdick.
Fordham scored a pair of runs an inning later to take a 2-1 lead, but that was all it would put up on the offensive end.
DeBoer delivered another RBI single in the fifth inning to once again score Burdick, tying the game up at 2-2.
The Huskies went on to score two more in the fifth and another in the sixth to earn the 5-2 victory and advance to play South Florida in another elimination game.
The two additional runs came in the top of the fifth with no outs on the board, first with the DeBoer RBI single and then a single from Jadyn Glab, who advanced another 60 feet on a Fordham fielding error and bringing in another run.
Ally Hetzel then recorded a sacrifice fly to bring home DeBoer.
Gabi Toney pinch hit for Marley Teasley in the top of the sixth, recording an infield single to lead off the inning. Burdick followed it up with a single of her own, soon followed by a Fordham throwing error that advanced both Toney and Burdick. A wild pitch brought Toney home for the fifth and final run of the game.
Sophia Ramuno got the win to improve to 11-6 on her final collegiate season, including six strikeouts, combining with Morgan Reimer to give up just five hits.
Washington vs. South Florida
The scoring came in bunches for the Huskies in game two of the day, as Washington scored four runs on 10 hits.
South Florida struck first courtesy of a sacrifice fly to get on the board first in the bottom of the second as the designated home team.
Back-to-back home runs by Glab and Ava Carroll in the top of the fourth lit a fire under the Huskies, with Glab registering her second homer of the weekend and 12th of the season. Carroll's bomb was her sixth of the season and first since late March
USF scored two more in the fifth to regain the lead, then Giselle Alvarez stepped up in a clutch moment to deliver a two-RBI double that brought in Sophi Mazzola and pinch runner Tia Durst.
A South Florida solo home run and two-run single in the sixth sealed the deal, as the Bulls will advance to Sunday to play Arkansas.
